Good morning, neighbours. Sitting on my front porch is a 37 inch television that due to it's weight, size and awkwardness, I am unable to move to the curb for Bulk Pickup. I hoping that the muscles in Highland Park have not deteriorated over the winter and that I could rely on two neighbour guys (and a dolly?) to move it to the curb for me. [Highland Park] East Liberty History Book

Now that the Arcadia book Pittsburgh's East Liberty Valley has been published, many neighborhood people have taken advantage of the opportunity to purchase a copy (or copies), and it has been getting great reviews. However, many are still not aware that the book is available. So this coming Thursday, February 21, there will be a book sale and signing at the regular meeting of the Highland Park Community Council at St. Andrew's Hall on Hampton St., starting at 7:00 pm. Members of the East End/East Liberty Historical Society, who wrote the book, are selling it for $20 per copy, with all proceeds going to the non-profit Society. We encourage you to come out for this meeting, but if you can't make it you can buy the book any time by calling Al Mann, 412-661-5947.

[Highland Park] gun violence prevention

Neighbors, For those of you concerned about gun violence in our community, please reserve Tuesday, February 26, 1:30 p.m. to attend an important press conference announcing the formation of the new CeaseFire PA/Million Mom March Pittsburgh chapter. The location will be the media room at the hospital. I will send a follow up message with the exact location. In response to the shooting of Michael, the owner of the Walnut Market, and many other acts of gun violence in the city, a group of us met in December to discuss what we can do as a community to reduce gun violence. I have been in close contact with the leadership of CeaseFire PA, folks who are also involved with the Million Mom March and the Brady Campaign against gun violence. They are ecstatic that there are interested activists in Western PA because our own legislators have said they do not hear anything about this issue from this part of the state. CeaseFIre needs our support and advocacy to help reach its goal this year of passing legislation limiting the purchase of handguns to one per month and a second bill requiring a handgun owner to report to the police within 48 hours the loss or theft of the gun. Both bills are designed to stop the flow of straw purchasing and the flooding of legally-purchased guns into the illegal market. Please join me at the press conference and as members of our new Pittsburgh chapter. I would like to have a strong Highland Park showing. Eastern Standard Time Subj: New Citizen Alert Pittsburgh Bureau of Police - Zone 1 Citizen Alert Suspicious Male - Aproaching Young Girls On 2-07-08 Sewickley Officers were called to the Sewickley Library for a report of a man approaching little girls. Officers located and detained Mathew Cinna. The two 11 year old girls told officers that Cinna approached them asking where a pay phone was. He asked the girls several times about a pay phone and walked closer each time. The girls ran at this point. Cinna was located, detained, and identified ~ but since there was nothing to hold him on at this point ~ he had to be released. It was later discovered that Cinna had a prior arrest for indecent exposure on 11-5-03 in Findlay Towship. He reportedly stood in front of a day care while children were watching and urinated. Cinna is 5'9" about 200 lbs, has red hair and walks with a cain due to suffering from MS (see photo). Since Cinna has been arrested in the past in Findlay, and this recent incident occured in Sewickley - he apparently travels and has no boundaries. While Matthew Cinna is not currently wanted ~ be suspicious if you spot this individual or if he approaches your child as desribed in the incident above.
