September 9 is "Round Up Sunday" at St. Andrew's--corner of Hampton Street and N. Euclid Avenue in Highland Park-- each year the first big day of our fall season. Services are at 9 and 11 a.m.--and at the 11 a.m. service we will have our full choir, happily returned and well-rested after their summer hiatus, and as special guest musician, all the way from England, Mr. Joseph Nolan, whose official title is "Organist of Her Majesty's Chapels Royal at St. James Palace." Nursery Care for infants and very young children is available 8:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Between the two morning services, from 9:45 - 10:45 a.m., a new year begins for our very popular, Montessori-based Godly Play classes (Pre-K - 5th grades) and our Sunday morning Youth Gathering (6th grade-high school). The Adult "Coffee and Conversation" Forum begins at 10 a.m. And "after church," around noon, we'll gather in the Churchyard on Hampton Street for a festive Round Up Sunday Picnic, with chicken, chili, and all kinds of great food --and with PONY RIDES for the kids! All neighborhood folk, individuals and families, are warmly invited. It's helpful to rsvp (412 661-1245) so we have a rough idea about how many chairs and tables to set up . . . and if you'd like to bring a salad or side dish to share, that would be delightful. The areas covered for tomorrow evening's meeting include: Lawrenceville, Morningside, Friendship, Bloomfield and Highland Park.

Hi Neighbors, I am in need of recommendations for a house cleaner for an elderly friend of mine who lives in Morning side. If you know of anyone reliable and trust worthy looking for an extra house to clean about every other week, please let me know. Also, wondering if any of you home remodelers have any suggestions for the best way to strip a hundred years of paint off old wood (trim, banister and spindles) We looked into strip and dip, and it was very costly. hi neighbors. As always, I'm looking for help with my two children. First, I would love to have some neighborhood girls and/or guys who would be available on weekend evenings and some weeknights on a sporadic basis. Secondly, and more importantly, I could use someone as an emergency back-up for sick kids during the week. This could be a little extra income for a stay-at-home mom or a retired person who is around the neighborhood most days. This might entail me calling you the night before, or having the school call during the day if someone falls ill. My children are fairly healthy and don't get sick often, but it's bound to happen. [Highland Park] Firing Range MEETING WED 9/5

Some of you may have already received a (paper flyer) message from Bill Rago that the Police Training Academy will be holding a meeting with interested members of the community concerning changes in the current schedule of use of the firing range on Washington Blvd. Bill handed out his flyer to folks living in the 1200 blocks of Heberton and Winterton, but the noise from the range affects many other people in the community, both at their homes, and as they use the Reservoir, the softball field, the Farmhouse playground, and the pool and tennis courts, so I thought I would spread the word via this HPCC d-list. As many of you know, there is a long history of successful resolution of the problems with the firing range, and active community concern and input was essential in finding a balance between the needs of the Training Academy and those of the neighborhood. It is hoped that this upcoming Public Meeting will serve a similar purpose. The meeting will be held at the Police Academy, on Washington Blvd. , at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, Sept 5. (Entrance to the parking light is just north of the Negley Run traffic light) I have attached an article I wrote a couple of years ago summarizing the issues surrounding the use of the Firing Range. Hello neighbors, A friend of ours has a very nice wooden (cherry color wood) dining room table with a one foot leaf to extned the already 5 foot long table. It comes with 4 chairs that have apolstered seat bottoms. It is for sale at a very reasonalble price, and she is very anxious to sell. Photos are availble as well.
