Attention all Halloween lovers. I am writing to let you know that the Halloween display that has been at the corner of Highland and Jackson the for the last 6-7 years will not be put up this year. We are sorry we have to cancel this annual event. We feel that we can not continue this display due to a recent physical attack on my husband by a Pittsburgh garbage man while he was putting out the trash. He suffer several facial fractures and we are unable to continue the tradition this year. Sorry to all the Halloween lovers and thanks to everyone that has enjoyed and supported us each year. Join us for a Pittsburgh Symphony Community Engagement Concert at Peabody High School Thursday, October 25 7:30 p.m. A great concert benefiting a great cause! Be there to support… …the East Liberty area community coming together at Peabody High School …a concert where your ticket proceeds will be returned to the community to benefit the instrumental music programs at local Pittsburgh Public Schools- Rogers CAPA and Dilworth Traditional Academy …and most of all- be there to experience a wonderful concert and a chance to hear the PSO for a very, very low ticket price! We want as many people as possible to show up for this performance to support the community coming together, and to raise as much money as possible for the instrumental music programs at Rogers CAPA and Dilworth. HOWEVER, windows are easily broken and doors are easily jimmied or kicked in SO... Consider a burglar alarm system (which are not as expensive as you would think) which immediately sounds a loud alarm when a break-in happens. The signal is then dispatched to the police. Burglars tend to run as soon as the alarm sounds. Do not discard cartons with new electronics etc... out for the garbage until the morning of pick up. Hide laptops, IPods etc... when out. A good tip is to leave an old laptop case on the floor opened up with some interface wires laying on a table or desk. This may make the burglar think the laptop is out of the house. Burglars frequently case neighborhoods and become very familiar with them. Note strangers prowling the neighborhood and call police to report it, no matter how insignificant it looks. The response of uniformed officers is the best weapon against catching a burglar. Patrol Officers love to catch burglars. Consider calling a locksmith to access your home for security hardware. Keep accurate records of your valuables, including serial numbers of electronics etc... Consider motion activated night lights. WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU COME HOME AND DISCOVER YOUR HOUSE HAS BEEN BROKEN INTO Immediately leave the house and call police, the burglar(s) could still be in the house. Do not disturb anything, you may destroy evidence. Note any suspicious people, vehicles etc... in the area, especially in alleys and side streets, which may speed away upon your arrival home. After your home is secured by police, file an initial burglary report. After the police leave, carefully check the entire house for other property missing and areas disturbed. Report this to detectives who will conduct a follow-up interview and possibly order additional fingerprinting. Expect a call from the Mobile Crime Unit who will set an appointment to fingerprint as soon as possible. Hi Neighbors! Does anyone know of any recreation basketball or indoor soccer or other sports programs for little ones in the winter in Pittsburgh? My son is 5 1/2 and very energetic. We're new to the area, and we learned too late this year about the Dynamo and Morningside soccer leagues. So right now he is doing tumbling at Gymkhana instead. But he really wants to play a sport, and I really want to preserve my sanity this winter when he won't be able to release his energy running around in the yard.
