Anthony Coccia of "Anthony's Original Italian Ice" died a few months ago, so sadly this will be the first summer in a long time during which we won't see him near the park entrance with his Italian ice cart. Greetings, I just wanted to give everyone a "heads up" that you have a local community member that specializes in Computer ( PC ) Support and repairs and also has a "quick answer" help desk that is a local number, ( I'm on Winterton St. ... not in Asia ! ) for existing clients. My name is Steve Karl and I run and maintain the Pittsburgh PC Help Desk which can be found at: http://www.sightsea.com/pghpchd/ My "pet peeve" ::: New Computers that run very poorly because that "name brand company" put all that junk-ware in the machine. I've gotten really good at cleaning them up and making them perform well. Free Anti-Virus software that out performs the "2 big sellers" and is very "light weight" and easy on your PC. Initial phone consult is no charge, and most "quick calls" from existing clients are also no charge. Hardware repair / replacement also. WOW! I got 10 responses from neighbors since my message went out this afternoon asking for recommendations for basketball, indoor soccer and other indoor sports programs for kids. Neighbors, y'all are soooo cool! Nothing below includes figure skating or ice hockey. My husband and daughter, the family figure skaters, have been exploring area rinks and ice clubs this fall, so I'll try to put that together in another e-mail on another day. If anyone has suggestions/comments on figure skating or ice hockey in the area, go ahead and e-mail me at jubywuby(a)yahoo.com. I just probably won't have time to get to it until next week. They have great indoor soccer and basketball...or at least they did when my 21 year old was younger. They also have an indoor swimming pool and give lessons." Not games though, and I think the target age is 3 1/2 to 5 so your son may be a little on the older side for this. Just thought I'd mention it though. Hello Everyone, I just wanted to update everyone on the Citizen Observer and alert you to the fact that the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police will list all incidents reported throughout the city on a "blotter." Steps for accessing the blotter are below. For those of you who are not yet familiar with the Citizen Observer, I have attached some information from the website. The City of Pittsburgh, Bureau of Police's newest community safety project: CitizenObserver, the communication tool for a new century. We are providing information that will include new ways to keep us all connected and informed and will help keep our community safer. Watch Groups can have their own dedicated page on CitizenObserver to stay informed about what is happening in your neighborhood. You can receive Watch Group Alerts directly from our department about crimes or other incidents that are uniquely relevant to you. Local businesses can participate in the Business Alert Network. Be sure to select your correct business category when you sign up so that we only send you alerts that impact your company. I was thinking about Halloween and how cute all the kids are in their costumes, and how not so cute the older ones and adults are without their costumes, carrying pillow cases. I dont like giving candy to the ones without costumes. Sooo.......I was thinking about putting up a sign that says "no costume, no candy". Just a small effort of a costume would be acceptable. I have gotten quite a few positive responses from neighbors on Jackson Street. I would like to know how others feel about posting such a sign. Part of me feels a bit Scroog-ish, but I guess I have boundaries. Let me hear some of your thoughts, please. Thanks, Marty Harkins

There's actually a police entity (not No. 5) that determines if something is valid or not, isn't this quite subjective? As a neighborhood, how can we address this very serious issue?
