[I'm posting this on behalf of Amy Enrico since she's having some technical difficulties mailing to the list--please let me know if you're having similar problems. -Rudy] CONVERSATION CAFÉ for women of all ages presented by Jodi Peppel, MA, CRS and Patricia Boswell Bloomer, MA, LPC at Enrico's Tazza D'Oro Thursday, May 18th 7:30-9:30 You are invited to gather for an evening of conversation and community to listen to and share with women of all ages your thoughts and concerns facing women today. Patricia and Jodi will open the conversation by sharing the general concerns on the hearts of the women they are in contact with in their work as psychotherapists. The conversation will then be opened for individual sharing. Each woman may put her voice to her longings as we create a community "container" in which to support our hearts. When women are supported to speak from their hearts, magic happens and the world changes. [Highland Park] Property Taxes

I moved to Highland Park in July of 2004. Much to my dismay I was welcomed with unfair property taxes and a 3% wage tax. My house is very similar to my immediate neighbors around me yet I am paying twice as much in property taxes as my neighbors just because I bought my house after 2002. Not a good way to attract movement into the city? I have filed an appeal however according to the county my appeal needs to be based on 2002 sales? If anyone can offer any suggestions to my situation I would be very thankful I do not understand why people that moved to the City are being unfairly taxed just because they bought their homes after 2002? If the city wants to attract new residents and businesses this surely is not the way to do it. Thanks, Mike Barnes 1110 N Highland

I am doing some historical research on early petroleum pioneers in Pittsburgh, including Charles Lockhart and William Larimer Mellon of the East End. About 30 years ago, John Collins, Jr of Highland Park published a book entitled Stringtown on the Pike, which is out of print. It contains information that would be of value to me. The following is an Expression by the Artist. Every artist has access to a conglomeration of energy. Call it divine help, the Muse, Spirit, Ancestor. Call them God. The important thing is to call them, and listen when they speak. Over the years, I?ve learned that an artist?s body of work is already completed. The pieces wait in the wings for artists to listen, to catch up, to realize potential. My quilts manifest as bursts of color, passion and sometimes, social commentary, set on backdrops of irregular squares, ovals and rectangles. The pages in my artist books never match; they lean forward or aft and speak about snatches of life. The imperfection in design is the discovery of the quilt or artist book, and sometimes I forget what I?ve learned; revert to thinking the progression of a piece is solely my invention. Struggle sets in. I rummage around, search for the means to a so-called perfect quilt, or book pages with sharp, defined edges. I manipulate and strategize. Waste time. Then, it occurs to me.
