[Highland Park] Book Wanted
I am doing some historical research on early petroleum pioneers in Pittsburgh, including Charles Lockhart and William Larimer Mellon of the East End. About 30 years ago, John Collins, Jr of Highland Park published a book entitled Stringtown on the Pike, which is out of print. It contains information that would be of value to me. If anyone has a copy they would be willing to sell, please let me know. Thanks. Al Mann 412-661-5947 alfredmann_6@msn.com
You can purchase this title through a great out-of-print service on the Web called Abebooks. They bring together bookstores from around the world. Searching on your title, there are 5 places where you can buy it but it's a bit pricey: <http://dogbert.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?sts=t&an=collins&y=17&tn=stringtown+on+the+pike&x=44> If you don't want to buy it, only 21 libraries nationwide own it. Locally you have 3 choices: 1. The East Liberty branch of the Carnegie has 2 copies in the Non-Fiction Collection: q F159.P6 C7. They also have a copy in their Reference collection that they may let you use in the library only. The Main Branch of the CLP also has it in Reference, rq F159.P6 C7. 2. UPitt has a copy at Hillman Library but it's currently overdue (due back on the 11th). You'd have to find someone at Pitt who would check it out for you: F159.P6 C7. 3. Finally, the library at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary down the street has a copy. But once again, you'd have to use it in the library or find someone who know at the Seminary to check it out for you: F159 .P6 C71 Hope all this helps.
