Music and traditional devotions will mark the Great Three Hours of Good Friday at St. Andrew's, Highland Park. The first hour, beginning at 12 noon, will be the devotion of the Stations of the Cross. Beginning at 1 p.m., the second hour, the Liturgy for Good Friday from the Book of Common Prayer, will include the reading of the St. John Passion Gospel and a brief Good Friday Meditation by the Rector. Music in the Second Hour will include works by Handel and Soler y Ramos. Soprano soloist and Highland Park resident Elizabeth A. Downey will be accompanied by David Charonis. The Third Hour, beginning at 2 p.m., will be a Service of Music, featuring St. Andrew's Choir and the Strings of the Pittsburgh Festival Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Melissa McBride. Portions of The Passion According to St. Matthew, by J.S. Bach, and works by Edvard Grieg and Ralph Vaughn Williams will be presented, along with several Passiontide chorales and hymns set for congregational singing. The service ends at 3 p.m. with the tolling of the Great Bell. St. Andrew's is located at the corner of Hampton Street and North Euclid Avenue, one block south of Bryant Street and four blocks south of the park, in the East End Pittsburgh neighborhood of Highland Park. Did you know that despite leveraging $3 million in cash and in-kind contributions toward the renovation, reuse and growth of the former Union Baptist Church building, the Union Project has been renting for the past 5 years? In 2001, the Pittsburgh Leadership Foundation (PLF), led by Rev. Dr. John Stahl-Wert, PLF President & CEO as well as a founding board member of the Union Project, purchased the former church with a loan from Eastern Mennonite Missions Church Loan Fund. The PLF also served as the fiduciary umbrella for the Union Project during our first full year of operations while we worked to develop our organizational management and financial sustainability. On March 31, 2006, the PLF Board of Directors voted to accept a sale of the building to the Union Project for the assumption of the outstanding mortgage and $1. [Highland Park] Scaffolding for sale

With my house now up for sale, I do not plan to spend another summer on the restoration and painting of the trim and am therefore offering my scaffolding for sale. Included are 12 trusses which stack to 30 feet high, cross braces, locking pins and levelers. Used approximately 4 months and in like new condition. I paid $800 for the system and am looking for a reasonable offer. I am at 910 N. Negley (corner of Jackson).

Hello Highland Park Neighbors, My name is Bob Studebaker and I'm a jazz disc jockey at WDUQ-FM. I am posting this to encourage you to consider attending a jazz benefit concert for essential human services in Wilkinsburg. This event is called Mulberry Jazz and will feature the Chuck Austin Quartet (Chuck is the president of the African American Jazz Preservation Society of Pgh.) and vocalist Sandy Dowe. It will be Saturday April 29th with doors opening at 6pm for refreshments and an informal discussion of the history of jazz and the concert will get started around 7. It should be over before 9:30. This concert is to benefit the Center at Mulberry which provides a food pantry, clothes pantry, senior citizens center, a family outreach center of Childrens Hospital, counselling and other services to the residents of Wilkinsburg. Tickets are $10 ($7 for students and senior citizens). This is going to be a very enjoyable evening and has already received wonderful support from many east end businesses.The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust has also offered support and just last week Mellon Jazz agreed to be our "presenting" sponsor. Please consider spending a few hours on a Saturday evening enjoying good company, good conversation, great music and most importantly supporting a very worthwhile cause.
