A number of years ago (~15?) there was a rash of thefts of copper downspouts in the neighborhood. Many houses (ours included) and St. Andrew's Church were hit. A middle aged guy from Morningside was eventually arrested for the thefts. His hearings kept getting put off, so I never did find out the final disposition of the case. At any rate, yes, the value of scrap copper is high enough for someone to attempt this. Hi, I'll repeat my comment from the last time this discussion was going on. I live on N. St. Clair (between Bryant and Hampton). I used to carry a Verizon cell phone for work purposes - it was totally unreliable - lost the signal regularly, usually in the middle of a call, even from my third floor. For my personal use, I have Sprint - and have had them for the past 6 years. I get great reception from home - always 5 bars. I have never lost a signal at home and rarely anywhere else. Claudette

I had two solar lamps excised from along my outside steps as well, earlier in the summer. My daughter's friend found one tossed in some ivy around the corner, a day or two later. This really sounds like wayward juveniles to me - unless shown otherwise - though it's still annoying, at least. My impression was that that person was going to be talking to a Verizon representative about the situation. Did that meeting ever happen? How did it turn out? I just found out that a neighbor had a plant stolen from her porch the other day. Unfair and unfortunate, but usually unremarkable. Except for this. Two weeks ago, a plant was stolen, _from out of the ground_, in our front yard. Another neighbor told me that a few years ago, there was a rash of plant theft in the neighborhood. Early Childhood Education (ECE) Teacher Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council Families for Learning Center Job Description for Early Childhood Education Teacher Part Time Position: 15 hours per week; to include 12 hours direct care/service and 3 hours of planning and meeting time at the Lawrenceville Families for Learning Center; Monday through Thursday 9 AM to 12:45. 1. The ECE Teacher will be responsible for: a. 0-3 year old childrens care and instruction while the parents are enrolled in English as a Second Language (ESL)/Family Literacy classes three hours per morning, Monday through Thursday. b. Planning and implementing, with the assistance of the Family Literacy Coordinator and Head Start Education Coordinator, all ECE activities with the children. c. Preparing and serving the morning snack to the children. d. Cleaning up and straightening the toys and books in the ECE room after the morning classes. e. Participating in the Parent and Child Interactive Activities (PACT) and Parent Education (PE)that will occur during the Monday through Thursday morning classes. f. Communicating any issues regarding the children with the parents directly. g. Participating in GPLC Families for Learning meetings and planning sessions. 2. The ECE teacher will not be responsible for the dressing, diapering, bottle-feeding or disciplining of the children. a. Any issues with child discipline will require immediate attention by the parent on-site, possibly with the assistance of the Family Literacy Coordinator or the ECE Teacher. b. Any issues of diapering, dressing or bottle-feeding will be addressed by the parent. 3. The ECE teacher should love young children, appreciate diversity, and be outgoing, dedicated, and creative. *This position requires the applicant to have received their ACT 33/34 clearances (criminal record check and child abuse clearance) from the State of Pennsylvania prior to employment. The Open Door is a missional church community who is renting space and partnering with the Union Project at 801 N. Negley Ave. Our church is associated with and being planted by the Pittsburgh Presbytery (PCUSA). We are extremely excited about learning more about Highland Park and the bordering East End neighborhoods. We will be hosting a Neighborhood Bash this Sunday from 12 pm - 3 pm at the Union Project.
