We would like to widen a doorway that is part of a support wall, plus some other changes, that have prompted people to say that we should consult with a structural engineer first. 10 a.m. "Between the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Services at St. Andrew's, Highland Park. This Sunday's "Coffee and" Conversation will feature Jim West, our former St. Andrew's Senior Warden, in a discussion of his sculpture, "Point of View," which was installed earlier this fall on the Mt. Washington overlook. "This bronze monument on Pittsburgh's Mount Washington depicts a meeting in October, 1770, between George Washington and Seneca leader Guyasuta. Once allies, then vererans on opposing sides in the French & Indian War, the two met 17 years later down the Ohio River and sat overnight at council fire to revisit their past and debate the future ofthis highly prized region. Though they held very different ideas about the fate of this area,they parted on friendly terms. Called "Point of View," the sculpture by James A. West captures a moment in time between these two forminable men whose actions had a huge impact on Pittsburgh, Southwestern Pennsylvania, and the country that would become the United States of America. The piece marks the westernmost endof the Grand View Scenic Byway and Park, an official Pennsylvania Scenic Byway. It was dedicated on October 25, 2006, by Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and Warren Skye (HoinJaGwaGohn), along with period re-enactors, the artist, Mt. St. Andrew's, Highland Park Thursday, December 7, 2006, 8 p.m. A holiday recital featuring tenor Mark Spondike and the young people of the Rogers CAPA Middle School Madrigal Choir will follow the service of Choral Evensong at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church on Thursday evening, December 7, at 8 p.m. The service, sung by the Choir of St. Andrew's Church, under the direction of Peter J. Luley, will feature traditional Advent readings, with canticles (from the Short Service) and anthem ("O Thou the Central Orb) by Orlando Gibbons. The recital will feature traditional music and carols of Advent and Christmas, sung by Mr. Spondike and by the Rogers-CAPA Madrigal Choir. All are welcome. A festive seasonal reception will follow the recital in the Parish Hall. Dear Highland Park Community (and all other communities in Pittsburgh), City Council Proclamation-Thanks Lenny! We'd like to thank Len Bodack (and Mary Kay in his office) for sponsoring the recent City Council proclamation acknowledging the work of Education Innovations, including our Young Entrepreneur's Club and our work towards starting the Education InnovationsLAB Charter School. Lenny has supported us since the beginning and we appreciate his commitment to education in Pittsburgh. I've attached the text of the proclamation at the end of this email. Public Hearing for the Education InnovationsLAB Charter School The Education InnovationsLAB Charter School has an important public hearing before the Pittsburgh School Board next week on Wednesday, December 6 at 5:30pm at the Board Administration Building located at 341 South Bellefield Avenue. Your support will allow us to offer a high-quality public education choice in the city: 1. 6 Laboratories of Inquiry that allow students to get deep and broad experiences in Technology, Language, Science, Engineering/Architecture, the Arts, and Community; 2. K-12 Spanish instruction required for all students; 3. K-12 Entrepreneurship instruction required for all students; 4. K-12 community year-long community projects; and 5. The only K-12 International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) school in the region Please call the school district starting on November 29, at 412-622-3600 to be placed on the agenda. Tell them you want to be put on the list in support of the Education InnovationsLAB Charter School. The cutoff time is noon on the day of the hearing.
