Olga Watkins & The Soul Kitchen Band will be the feature performers for the evening. Feb. Monday Evening Discussion Series In the spirit of continuing the pursuit of unity and facing issues of equality, humanity, and community, the Union Project and Open Door hosts Monday Evening Conversations every Monday evening in February at 7:00pm. Showing films by local and international directors alike, these Monday night discussions will begin on February 5^th at 7:00pm with a presentation of “East of Liberty: A Story of Good Intentions” a documentary by Chris Ivey. Announcing Glass Action & Call for Apprentices Glass Action is a stained glass restoration social enterprise that will employ low-income individuals in the art of stained glass restoration. We will target historic structures in need of stained glass restoration that may not be able to afford going-rate restoration and contract with them on an application-based sliding scale. Glass Action will promote historic preservation, community and economic development and job creation and training. We are issuing a call for applications from ex-offenders who are interested in FT employment with benefits. Prospective employees must have demonstrated a commitment to recovery, employment and teamwork. No skills in stained glass restoration are required, though people who are good with their hands and able to learn new skills in manual labor are preferred. [Highland Park] Grant For New Neighborhood Signs

I am pleased to announce that Councilman Len Bodack assisted in the approval for a community grant to be used for new Highland Park neighborhood signs. The announcement was made at last night's Highland Park Community Council meeting. The grant awarded totaled $ 8,000.00 and we are starting the process now to have signs installed this spring. The new signs will be cedar with 14k gold lettering on a black background. The script will reflect the neighborhood's Victorian housing stock. Len Bodack's office was very efficient and pro-active in addressing this request that had been brought up to me by various neighborhood members. Thank you to the neighbors who took the initiative to make the request, Monica Watt for assistance with design, Councilman Len Bodack along with his assistant Mary Kay Abdulovic, City Council members who approved this initiative, and Council Budget Director William Urbanic for all working to make it happen. These signs will help to bring new attention to our thriving neighborhood.
