Hi Highland Park Neighbors, I clean many homes in Highland Park, and was writing to the community in regard to a wonderful young women who is looking to start her own business in personal care. She has been the healthcare industry for 8 years and is looking for additional work in helping seniors and the disabled with meal preparation, daily living needs, laundry, running errands. Her name is Tamara Welsh. She is CPR and First Aid certified and also trained in many other aspects of the healthcare field. If anyone is looking for extra help she has wonderful references including myself, and people she has taken care of in the past, and present. She is also wonderful with children. [Highland Park] Tires slashed

Dear neighbors: Yesterday, Thursday October 4th, I discovered that sometime during the night all 4 tires on my car had been slashed. No other vehicles were harmed. A similar incident occured last Wednesday morning around 2am in the 1100 block of Farragut Street. Two black men (perhaps late 20s) were seen trying door handles on vehicles. They also entered the driveways in the rear of homes and tried the vehicle doors there as well. They continued down Mellon Street and turned onto Bryant where they tried the door at 5700 Bryant. When they couldn't get in, they loitered around the front of the apartment building there laughing and screwing around. We had gotten in the car and followed them while I called the police. I don't know if the police responded, or if they did if there was anything that they could do. This made me angry because earlier in the summer, we had an iPod stolen from our car while we had left the door unlocked for a short time. It was not even in plain sight, rather the perpetrators tore the entire center console apart to find the iPod. I encourage everyone to call the police when they see such behavior; it's the only thing that's going to stop these sorts of activities in our neighborhood. -- David Betts

The well known and highly respected political reporter Jon Delano (KDKA, Pittsburgh Business Times, CMU, etc.) will be our featured speaker at the 10th Annual St. Andrew's Lecture this Friday evening, October 12, 8 p.m., at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Highland Park. The topic of Mr. Delano's presentation will be "Pennsylvania and the 2008 Presidential Election." The presentation will be followed by a period of discussion with the audience, and then all are invited to a festive reception in the Parish Hall. The event is free and open to the public. This female calico cat was found in a local Walmart parking lot. She was taken in and now the new owner's landlord saw her in his window and told him to get rid of her. She was taken to the vet and was check for a micro chip, she had none. She was treated for flees and updated on shots. She is not spayed. She is very friendly and playful. The gentleman that found her does not want to see her put out again. If anyone can help out call TED at 412-200-2816

[Highland Park] thank you Zone 5 officer!

We just read in the paper this morning that a Zone 5 police officer who suspected a drug deal at N. Euclid and Hampton (at St. Andrew's) pursued the dealer into East Liberty and was involved in a crash. The paper stated that the officer had to go to the hospital (and so did the suspect)- I'd like to say thank you to the officer for helping to stop criminal activity in Highland Park. Hopefully the officer's injuries were not too serious. My husband has wondered if he has seen drug deals on Heberton near Wellesley, and others Ive spoken with have mentioned seeing suspicious activity around HP east of Highland Avenue. Perhaps this kind of diligent police presence will have an effect- we can only hope. Again, thank you to the officer and we hope you are recovering- you make a difference in our neighborhood!!
