[Highland Park] Free Concert In Monroeville

Greetings Neighbors, Thanks to many of you that were able to make it out to Monroeville earlier this month. I wanted to invite everyone out again I will be singing THIS Saturday Night , August 2nd from 8-11pm at the Penn Center East Plaza,in front of Sears, near Starbucks. It is free, bring your lawn chair, bottle of vino etc. and come and hear some beautiful music. Extremely kid friendly! I have the honor of sharing the stage again with Mark Strickland Guitar, Chris Panginka piano, Kenny Blake Sax, Tania Grubbs (me) vocals. It would be wonderful if you could make it out. [Highland Park] Free kids furniture

Hi all, We have a four piece kids bedroom set: two beds with futon mattresses and two dressers. The wood is dark green and brown. The furniture is in good condition with some minor scratches. The beds each have two pull out drawers for storage. Also have matching sheets and comforters too. We also have a 5 drawer desk, brown. We're moving, and can't take these with us. [Highland Park] Wicker Furniture stolen

We had an experience similar to Janet Jai's in that someone came into our fully fenced courtyard, through the gate, and liberated our wicker settee and coffee table. We are very disappointed -- we had just acquired the furniture at the Highland Park yard sale. It's funny, it spent six weeks sitting on our front porch...no problems...but we moved it to the back courtyard because we were having our front porch painted and someone goes to all the trouble to come into the courtyard and take it. And, it's interesting to note that it's a 6 foot privacy fence so it's almost like they had to know it was there to come in and get it. We had come home from dinner out around 10 and it was there. But an hour later, when we let the dogs out, it was gone -- we'd been home the whole time, with the lights on. I guess we should be grateful they left the cloth and the votives that were on the table!

I am looking for a local seamstress or someone who is skilled at plus size alterations, pants hems, waists, etc. Does anyone in the neighborhood have this special skill or have a trusted place/person in the East End that they go to for alterations? Many thanks! Mary

[Highland Park] Need a Gardener

We are looking for recommendations for a gardener to do general maintenance around our small house, mowing and picking up leaves, etc. We are looking for our landlords, and so it would need to be a professional company with references. Thanks for any tips. Donna Ficca

[Highland Park] door stolen

On Sunday evening, the old door that we were stripping in our backyard was stolen. We wonder if it was one of the people with pickup trucks who drive around on garbage nights looking for stuff. It happened between 7 & 8:30 p.m., and we notified the police. We wonder if anyone saw anything (near the intersection of Euclid & Jackson). Note: The door was not left out anywhere near the street. Perhaps the person actually thought we were going to throw this door out, but to get the door they had to come fairly far into our yard - it was leaning against our deck supports - and walk out again. If it was taken accidentally, we would appreciate it's return. Thank you. jai

Re: [Highland Park] Turkey Attack

I am sorry about the frightening attack. I have been observing the mother turkey sitting on her eggs next to the path on the Bigelow Trail for the last 6 weeks or so, after my dog disturbed her on her nest. At that time there were 11 eggs. I walked by her in all kinds of weather, and she stayed put, pretending I wasn't there. Last week or so, as we walked on the trail, we came upon the recently hatched babies and met up with the mother standing guard as they ran up the hill. When I checked the nest, I saw that 7 had hatched. They are growing up now and probably hard to keep track of, so the mother is most likely even more protective. It is best to avoid the area now, and enjoy that we have wildlife so close to us.

[Highland Park] kittens need a home

Hello, I am fostering some 15 week old kittens who are looking for a home. They are both males, one is an orange tabby and the other is grey tabby and white. They are both neutered and have all their shots (except rabies which I can get for them). They are very active and love to play with each other and my other cats. They are a bit shy around people...they were not exposed to humans until they were about 10 wks. old, but I have worked a lot with them and they've come a long way. I would like to place them together since they are very attached to one another, and I think it would make the transition easier. As I said, they are a bit shy, and will need some loving patience to adjust to a new home. If anyone is interested in these little guys, please send me an email or call me at 412-901-0901. Dear Neighbors, I recall there was an email exchange earlier in the year regarding reckless driving by school buses around our neighborhood. I have almost been hit twice in the last 2 months by a school bus and decided to write a letter to the Director of Pupil Transportation. I have attached the letter in the event that it is of interest to anyone. Nancy Arnold
