[Highland Park] Piano for Sale

It's time for us to part with our trusty and now barely played family piano. It's a modern Kimball upright (aka console piano) with 3 pedals, NOT a spinet. Kimball stopped manufacturing in 1996 and we purchased the piano used from Trombino here in Pittburgh about 5 years ago. All that means the instrument is at least 12 years old. Trombino told us that it came to them from a church that purchased the piano when it was new. This is a good instrument for beginning pianists. It has good action, has been tuned regularly (although it is currently due for tuning) and is in fine condition. The piano is a medium-brown color with a curved, lattice-design music support, turned legs and a matching padded bench. You can see similar pianos on eBay right now if you google 'Kimball pianos." We're asking $500 or best offer (purchaser moves) on the advice of the folks at Trombino. We live in Highland Park and will be glad to make an appointment if you'd like to get a look at the piano. We recently received a package intended for someone else on our street--many of the house numbers are a combination of 4s and 5s, and the UPS driver reversed the numbers. Unfortunately, when this happened once before, we found UPS to be unhelpful at first. They were slow to respond to our phone calls and to send a driver to collect the package (I'm guessing this is because in their records the driver had noted the package as "delivered"). After a while we just placed the package on the correct porch ourselves, being careful not to leave it in a place visible from the sidewalk (we also rang the doorbell). UPS did eventually follow-up with us, and the correct owner acknowledged receipt of the item. If someone else has your box, you might be experiencing a similar kind of delay. It's still a good idea to call UPS to have an official record, but with so many items being delivered this time of year, it seems plausible that drivers are experiencing some mix-ups. [Highland Park] foster cat needs a home

Hello everyone, I am fostering a cat through Animal Friends. She is a beautiful 2-3 year old long haired brown tabby, fixed and up to date on her shots. She was abandoned at the shelter in April and has yet to find a home. She is affectionate, tolerates my almost 5 year old son, but is not too fond of other cats. She would probably do well as an only cat, or in a home with a lot of space so she could avoid other resident cats. She is not violent, just hissy, spitty, etc. with other cats. I am scheduled to bring her back to Animal Friends in mid-January, and would love to identify a home before that so she doesn't have to return to that stressful environment. Please note that the adoption would have to take place through Animal Friends, but if you are interested, you are welcome to come to my house and meet her. I live on Callowhill St. in Highland Park. Hello Neighbors, I have found a child's backpack on Highland Ave. My children attended the Waldorf School several years ago and a notebook found in the backpack has that style of painting on an insert. There is also a child's name on the white notebook. I don't want to post children's names without parental permission. I tried to locate the family to call and it appears that the numbers are unlisted. Sorry about your packages. I was lucky enough to be home and within earshot of the doorbell when UPS came to my place yesterday. However, that same day (Friday, 12/19) I received a card from my mother with the envelope slit open on 2 sides. I called USPS 800# right away to report it. [Highland Park] community garden

Hi I am the Volunteer Coordinator for the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy Community Gardens and Greenspace Program. We have a Community Garden in your community; it is located at the Highland Park Bridge @ Butler St. I am sure most of you have driven by it and seen the magnificent flower display every season. We are looking for someone in the community to take on the job of garden steward for the garden. It could be an individual or a group, such as a boy or Girl Scout troop or a group of neighbors that like to garden. The job isn't very difficult, it mostly involves helping with the planting, weeding during the summer and help with the pull out in the fall. We do the mowing and watering. We have 140 gardens in and around Western Pennsylvania and they are all volunteer run. Please help me find someone to keep this garden looking good in Highland Park.
