[Highland Park] Brutal attack near Stanton Ave

Hello all, A friend of mine was attacked and raped on Friday evening around 8-8:30 pm near Stanton and Negley ave. She was at the bus stop talking on her phone, and a young man (most likely under 20 yrs old) grabbed her and dragged her into the woods. Fortunately, she was able to keep her wits about her and convince him not to kill her (which he was trying to do). Police reports have been filed, and as of now, I do not have any more information. He did not wear a mask, and she was able to give a description (which I do not have at this time). I will provide more info as I find out more. If anyone was around this area at that time and heard or saw ANYTHING, please contact me or the police. I am so happy that my friend is still alive, and I hope to God that this man will be found and brought to justice. Please please PLEASE do NOT walk anywhere at night by yourself!! This occurred before it was even dark, so please be extremely cautious. I just wanted everyone here to be aware of what happened, as it did not get much news coverage. thanks, Anna Montano

[Highland Park] suggestion regarding the flower beds

My husband's and my favorite thing is to walk the reservoir and the flower beds. We have taken tons of lovely pictures. What would make it even more special for us would be to be able to recognize what the flowers are. Of course, some are obvious, like the tulips or the sunflowers. But how great would it be to add some pages to the Highland Park website identifying all that grow there each season and when to expect them? I envision spring, summer, and fall flower pages with pictures and descriptions- names and the order in which they appear. I know a very few are labelled, and I ran into the conservancy people one evening who identified a few. I'd be more than happy to donate my pictures. Perhaps the conservancy people could help, or other neighbors could volunteer to help set this up. Any interest from the neighborhood?

[Highland Park] puppy

Hi, One of my coworkers recently rescued a lost puppy from the middle of the road and is now trying to find a home for it (her other dog does not like it). The puppy is about five weeks old, has had its shots, been de-wormed, and is full of energy! It will probably be about 55 lbs when grown. I'm attaching a photo. [Highland Park] Soldering Iron?

Does anyone in the neighborhood have a soldering iron I can borrow? Or can I hire you to help me with a very small project? I need to change a battery inside my Tungsten E Palm Pilot and the battery wires need to be soldered (sp?) to the mother board... I have the new battery, just no soldering iron... We'll have lots of fun patriotic decorations for bikes and the kids, including ribbon, balloons, pinwheels, necklaces, name badges, visors, bracelets, etc. After we decorate our bikes, we'll parade around the paths & fountain with our different age groups.
