Where: Pittsburgh Theological Seminary When: Friday, July 17 at 7 p.m. david’s story is one of tenacious faith and gentle passion. On July 4, 1996, doctors told david he had a malignant brain tumor and would be dead in 6 months. In response, david left his corporate career and returned to his first love of songwriting and performing, hoping to share his new insights on hope and faith. 12 years, 18 albums, 44 states and hundreds of concerts later, david, his songs, and his ministry are alive and thriving. The son of Presbyterian missionaries, david spent his childhood in Beirut, Lebanon. He learned his first chords from his seventh grade English teacher, then went on to study classical guitar. He soon began writing his own songs and made his first recording a year later. The Lebanese civil war forced him to complete high school in Germany where he spent his weekends as a street musician; during these years he formed a small ensemble that toured throughout Central and Eastern Europe. In college, he played extensively in an original acoustic duo, but then put his guitar away and entered corporate America. Following his diagnosis, david returned to the stage in what has become an exciting and vibrant solo career. david’s songs are reminiscent of folk legends like James Taylor and Cat Stevens, though he also points to the eclectic influences of Kahlil Gibran, David Wilcox, and J.S. Bach. Last week, the Library reported that it projects a $6 million budget shortfall by 2014 if no changes are made to its current system. As it considers options for changes to the system in the process it calls “*Libraries for Life: Sustaining Our Future,*” the Library is seeking public input. Changes will be recommended to the Library’s Board of Trustees by September and begin to be implemented for the 2010 budget year. The 90-minute “town hall” meetings will include a brief presentation, as well as an opportunity for individuals to express what is important to them in terms of Library service. *WHO:* Hosted by the leadership of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh and moderated by representatives from the League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh. *WHAT:* A brief program will be presented outlining the financial situation faced by Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.
