Dear neighbors, if you are getting into knitting or just need a different size needle, don't go to the knit store before you check with me. I have dozens of straight and circular needles and crochet/afghan hooks for sale. Boye and Susan Bates brands. Perfect condition. They sell these days for in excess of $10+ and I am selling for $5/pr. I also have 12 skeins each of 100% Icelandic lambs wool and 100% French angora rabbit in black. Also 7 skeins of French mohair in colors of cream, purple and blue.They sell for $14+ a skein and I am selling for $5/skein or less if you purchase all. Also, black pialettes. Please go to www.g20safety.org and sign up now to receive emergency and general information text and email alerts. As the City makes important decisions that will affect you, such as permitted protest marches that may touch your neighborhood streets, we want to make sure that you are in the know. As a heads-up, early next week we will be releasing the City's G-20 traffic and transportation plan. All relevant information regarding this plan including parking restrictions, traffic detours, and road closures will be posted on this site. It is our goal to give you all of the information in an easy-to-understand fashion. We will have maps to serve as guidance and will announce a special G-20 311 information hotline that will be up and running before and during the summit to handle all of your concerns regarding traffic and the like. Our public safety efforts are well underway and Public Safety Director Michael Huss feels very confident that we will have a safe event. While there will be a focus of a portion of the Pittsburgh Police force and outside law enforcement in those areas of the city where G20 activities are scheduled or expected, Pittsburgh neighborhoods will have all public safety resources available during the G20. Zones will have the same number of officers assigned to each shift as they generally do. Special units like the SWAT Team will be available to neighborhoods if necessary. Fire and EMS will respond to neighborhood emergencies. Residents are encouraged to continue call 311 and 911 to report any suspicious activity. Neighbors, Please join me for the last weekly Walk in the Woods for this year on Wednesday evening, September 23, 2009. We start at the fountain promptly at 6:30pm, walk in the woodsy areas of the park as much as we can, and end up back at the fountain about an hour later. The walk should be fun for everyone, but keep in mind that paths and steps in the park can be uneven. Take precautions against bugs and weather if necessary. Rudy

[Highland Park] Follow-up re awful thing by our house this morning

Hi, I wanted to clarify something that I didn't say well enough in the original message, and to respond with thanks and information to the many of you who asked if we had called the police. The reason we didn't call the police originally (though we did Sunday evening) was because it appeared to be only the skins (including the head and tail and everything) of the animal, maybe a ferret. While it was awful, it didn't appear to have flesh and blood inside so it didn't seem like it was an animal that was expressly killed for this purpose. Rather it seemed like someone may have gone out and bought the animal skins and then attached them to the pole in that weird and awful way. After a number of e-mails suggested it, and I talked to Lynn, our very helpful Public Safety Chair, I did call the police early Sunday evening & they were very responsive. An officer came and filed an incident report and took the thing away with her. Thank you all for your helpful and caring support in dealing with this. jai Original message: When I went out to get our car this morning, there was an awful thing near our gate. It was a long stick wrapped around with beads and a cord and to the ends were tied animal head/bodies skins. They were from animals that had been alive at one time. We love animals. It was an awful thing to find. What is going on in this neighborhood. jai
