Please join us for fun tree-related kids activities at the neighborhood tree planting event this Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. Adults can help plant trees while your kids are doing fun things! Refreshments will be provided. Date: November 7 Time: 9 am Place: Corner of Stanton Ave and Mellon (come to the kids table!) Rain or shine Kids activities: Plant spring flower bulbs in the tree holes!! Wear clothes that can get dirty and sneakers Learn all about trees and animals that live in them by doing fun worksheets and puzzles! A local tree expert will talk to us about why we are planting trees, etc. We'll give you a tree identification guide and learn how to identify different tree species!! We'll do leaf rubbing drawings! Representatives from 35 public, charter, cyber, and parochial schools will be attendance. Dear Friends, I am writing today to update you on the plans to remove the graffiti on the Highland Park sculptures. I have spoken to three art conservators and have coordinated a cleaning method with City Graffiti Busters. Graffiti Busters has had some employees out sick this week, but will place a high priority on this particular problem as it has offensive messages and is on City artwork. Graffiti Busters and I will meet onsite early next week and make some removal tests with subsequent cleaning. Please remember that if you see graffiti on any City artworks, please call 311 or my office directly. If you see graffiti on other public (City) property, please call 911 and 311 (311 will reach City's Graffiti Busters and is the preferred method of notification). If you experience graffiti on your (private) property, please call 911, take pictures, then clean yourself or call 311 for Graffiti Busters. [Highland Park] Results from chimney sweep recommendations

It seems that many of us are looking for a good chimney sweep but alas I got no recommendations from anyone who had used a specific company! Two companies that people have had problems with are Chimney Cricket and Executive Chimney Sweep. If anyone has any other recommendations please send them along! Here are two suggestions for chimney sweeps: our home inspector recommended Soot Seekers, 412-279-0197 There's a guy named Rick Michalec, believe he specializes in chimneys and brick work, but not sure he qualifies as a "sweep". He's doing some work on 1200 block of Heberton right now. Here is one recommendation for gas log installation: For the gas log installation, I'd recommend American Chimney and Fireplace (you can find their number on the web), and ask for Mike. He's really, really competent and knowledgeable, and ACF's prices are reasonable. I had Mike install 8 gas fireplaces in my home about 2 years ago, and so far, I've had no problems with any of them.
