It seems that many of us are looking for a good chimney sweep but alas I got no recommendations from anyone who had used a specific company! Two companies that people have had problems with are Chimney Cricket and Executive Chimney Sweep. If anyone has any other recommendations please send them along! Here are two suggestions for chimney sweeps: our home inspector recommended Soot Seekers, 412-279-0197 There's a guy named Rick Michalec, believe he specializes in chimneys and brick work, but not sure he qualifies as a "sweep". He's doing some work on 1200 block of Heberton right now. Here is one recommendation for gas log installation: For the gas log installation, I'd recommend American Chimney and Fireplace (you can find their number on the web), and ask for Mike. He's really, really competent and knowledgeable, and ACF's prices are reasonable. I had Mike install 8 gas fireplaces in my home about 2 years ago, and so far, I've had no problems with any of them.
