[Highland Park] Steel City Big Pour

Dear Neighbors Another Steel City Big Pour is upon us- the fourth annual. We are calling it "Big Pour Four." The event is being held on Septembeer 11th, 2010. The Big Pour is a craft beer extravaganza, but it also serves as a fund raiser for the Construction Junction. The funds raised by this event allow Construction Junction to maintain and expand its mission of promoting conservation through the reuse of building materials. This year's event promises to be even bigger and better that prior years- with 35 brewers and 20 restaurants participating! In addition there is live music and live art. If you want to attend, you need to buy your tickets next Monday. We expect the event to sell out in a day or two. Tickets are $55 and include all taxes and fees. You also get a Uni-Growler which is a reusable half gallon jug that can be used to purchase draft beer at many of the areas best craft beer establishments. Anyone know of any Pittsburgh based companies that manufacture radiator covers for an old Highland Park home? I would prefer a metal cover to a wood cover. Hi! I was just parking on N. Highland, on the southbound side, between Bryant Court and Hampton, and I spotted an iridescent pink purse on the street. I picked it up, and it was empty. I left it on the base of a tree right near where I found it, on the southbound side of N. Highland. It looked like it might be a dress-up little-girl purse, but it could very well have been a real purse--I'm not a very good judge of these things. If it is yours, now you know where to find it. City Councilman Patrick Dowd is hosting the meeting, which will focus on the rights of property and business owners as well as the issue of protecting city resources including waterways, riverfronts and street infrastructure. Office of Councilman Patrick Dowd - August 2010 News and Updates On Thursday, July 29, 2010, from 7pm-8:30pm, the Office of City Councilman Patrick Dowd will host a panel discussion at the Teamster Temple, 4701 Butler Street, Lawrenceville, regarding Marcellus Shale drilling and its impact on the urban environment. Doors open at 6:30pm to offer an opportunity for community members to collect information at tables hosted by relevant organizations. Daniel Lavelle, with Councilman Dowd as a co-sponsor, has recently introduced an amendment to the current City statute regarding how the positions on the Citizens Police Review Board (CPRB) are filled. The central purpose of the CPRB amendment is twofold: to clarify and define the difference between a vacancy on the board (whenever a board member suddenly leaves their position due to death, move out of the city, etc.) and expiration of a member's term. It will also serve to provide a more detailed timeline and guidelines for the appointment/reappointment process of board members. Hello, neighbors! I am getting married in September, and I need a way to raise a little extra money for that happy occasion. I asked myself, "What am I good at?" "Baking," I replied. So, I'm offering my services as a baker to the neighborhood. I have been whipping up baked goods since I was a little girl, so I can make nearly anything you might want. My specialties are yeast breads and rolls (especially whole grain varieties), cinnamon buns, granola, funny cake (a favorite chocolate-laden dessert among the Eastern PA Mennonites from whom I descend), and hearty chocolate chip cookies . . . and that's just the short list. Like I said, I'm pretty handy when it comes to baked goods, so even if you don't see it on the list I can probably make it. Support a local bride and get some home-baked goodness to boot! What's not to love? I even give you full permission to tell your friends and family that you made whatever tasty morsel I might cook up for you.
