Come and enjoy the bounce house, apple bobbing, face painting, food and more while meeting your neighbors and re-connecting in the community. Get this on your calendar now for Sat Oct 13th from 11-6. The block party will be located at the 6500 Block of Northumberland street in Squirrel Hill. Learn more about our holiday toy drive kicking off Nov 8th and sign up if you will be in need of toys this holiday season or want to help with donation of toys, wrapping materials or your time to help in wrapping. It is very simple - You can go to the site for WYB http://www.whosyourbrother.com/ see the "sign up to get or give help" section. Click there and sign up. There will be a box that says referral code next to the captcha code box. enter Z9Z30Y7KW in that box - that will let me know that you signed up. Then it will send you and email to confirm that signup. When you get your email it will ask you to complete your profile. One part is to post a need or a gift. Don't think you have a gift? A couch or clothes or household goods can be a gift to someone. We all have something to give and maybe something we need. You can do both if you like. Or you can skip that untill you find something you need or want to give but at least that gets you in touch with what is going on in the WYB community. Save your profile and then you can access the people in need of help (under help someone today) to see if you may have a way to help someone. Members can communicate with those people through our email system. You can sit there and think about doing something good or you can just get out and do it. Neighbors: Recently a woman picked up some books from me to donate to the Pittsburgh Manchester PreK-8 school library. I have forgotten her name and could not locate her email. I have more books to donate: many hardcover picture books for young kids. If that school cannot use them, but anyone knows of a place that really needs books for young kids, please let me know so we can make arrangements for you to pick up the books this week. Jana

On behalf of a neighbor: Child care needed for house-bound parent coping with a chronic illness. Two lovely girls aged 10 months and 7 years. Sitter needed to pick up baby at daycare in Oakland and help with after school care of both girls. Also, help needed on weekends. Current clearances and valid driver's license required. We have an oak laminate entertainment unit and a 25" tv (old school) but it works just fine we'd like to donate it but can't figure out who might want it and could pick it up. Hello neighbors! My husband and I are in desperate need of new cell phones. Unfortunately, we are poor recent college grads who do not want to spend the outrageous prices of fancy phones. We have decided to start our hunt for two used cell phones that people are no longer using. We want something basic. All we do is talk and text. We have Verizon plans currently so we're hoping to find something that is Verizon compatible. If you have two cell phones (preferably with wall chargers) that you wouldn't mind giving away or selling at a lower price let me know! We'd love to take them off of your hands! Neighbors- I'd like to let you know about an absolute treasure that's just on the other side of the Liberty Tubes. Okay, I know it means crossing a river, but bear with me. http://www.thehollywooddormont.org/ The Hollywood Theater in Dormont is one of the last independent, single-screen theaters left around (places like the Oaks and Regent Square are a dying breed). We lost the Hollywood for a few years - it closed for economic reasons - but it has been reopened as a not-for-profit, running on volunteer steam power. Check out the movie list - I saw Indiana Jones on the big screen there a few weeks ago, and now it's a whole scary movie fest for Oct.! North by Northwest? I'm there!!! And where else can you go see Rocky Horror at the same place that Steve Chbosky (Perks of Being a Wallflower) did? Also - get this - they have a *balcony*. Tix are cheap. Popcorn is good.
