Join Us At The Fifth Annual Community Conversation on Race and Faith and the Kelso Lecture

Friends, Please join us Sat., Feb. 9 - 2:00-7:00 p.m. for the fifth annual Community Conversation on Race and Faith and the Kelso Lecture<https://www.pts.edu/racefaith-2019>. This free day-long program will equip and empower individuals to form on-going relationships that cross traditional boundaries to work for justice, especially racial justice. Dr. Herbert R. Marbury, associate professor of Hebrew Bible at Vanderbilt Divinity School, will deliver the 2019 Kelso Lecture. An ASL interpreter will be present during the lecture. Following the keynote presentation, participants will break into small groups for discussion on questions raised during the lecture. A community meal in which people of diverse backgrounds-economic, racial, and geographic-will break bread together at the conclusion of the day's sessions. We appreciate advance registration so we may plan appropriately for refreshments and dinner. The event is free and there will be a free-will offering during dinner. something's in the air (and it's not good)

Have you noticed a bit of a strange smell in our neighborhood the past few days? Maybe you, like our family, were sent a message from your kid's school saying they are limiting time outside due to the air quality levels the past few days? Maybe you've vaguely heard about the Clairton coke plant fire thing? After getting a message from our daughter's school that they are limiting time outside despite the warm temperatures, I went looking at airnow.gov's website and noticed a big red danger spot south of our city for the past few days. I'd heard about the clairton plant and the fire there but since it's outside the city, didn't pay too much attention. Looking at the map, I had a suspicion. I googled the location of the clairton plant. Take a look for yourself. What do you know? I have a pretty good hunch why that big red danger spot is there. When our kids can't go outside on a rare, nice weather day, what are we doing as a community? I heard they are building another plant upriver to the city right now...
