In solidarity, Jeffrey How have the events of 2018 shaped your life and the lives of your neighbors? In 2019 what can you do to pursue a more just community? This year’s event uses artistic exploration and expression to create an understanding of our own biases and build stronger communities who are accepting of everyone. Through discussion, creative activities, and a communal meal, we will explore how we can each create a legacy of justice in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Since 2001, Union Project has been using the arts to bridge gaps between communities. Join us and continue the work Dr. King started decades ago - creating communities that come together to celebrate diversity and acceptance *Monday, January 21, 2019 from 3:00 - 7:45 pm* 3:00 - 4:30 pm Self-guided art activities that allow us to explore open dialogue and understanding. Each activity is a drop-in format, allowing participants to dive-in and create at their own pace: - *Put Your Heart On Paper: Write a Love Letter to yourself* Make a commitment and challenge yourself to live a more just life. Location: Great Hall - *Say It Loud: The Clothesline Project* Using prompts, practice having difficult conversations that explore our fears, vulnerabilities, and biases. Location: Great Hall - *Clay Activity* Children and adults alike can visit the studio to work in clay. Location: Studio 3:00 - 7:00 pm *Clay Nation: Creativity, Communication, and Collaboration* An exhibit curated by Christine Bethea featuring the ceramic artists from Union Project's Collaborative Studio. 4:00 - 5:00 pm *Storytelling Teach-in Part I* Pittsburgh Playback Theatre invites you to bring your stories of dreaming and doing to an interactive theater performance. Your Sidewalk, your neighbor's transportation corridor!

Hi Neighbors! Now that we are actually getting some snow, just a polite reminder that it's quite important to clear snow from your sidewalk - front and sides if you live on a corner - after a snow storm. Particularly for those living in the hilly parts of the neighborhood. There are a lot of us living at the top of the hill who must walk down streets like Bryant, Wellesley, Hampton and Heberton each morning to take our kids to school/the school bus stop or ourselves to the PAT Bus Stops. The sidewalks get very treacherous on these hills when they haven't been shoveled, as they turn into ice in the morning. If you aren't physically able to shovel your walk, you can request help from the city's snow angels program: http://pittsburghpa.gov/snowangels/index.html - or please just ask a neighbor! I know on our street, we try to help out our neighbors who can't easily shovel by clearing there walks when we are out shoveling our own. Thanks so much folks! Let kids be kids!

Neighbors, On Saturday around 9pm we were all enjoying the first true snowfall of the winter. The streets were coated with some perfect snow for people to play. There was a group of kids & teens who were taking advantage of this snow near the corner of Jackson & N St. Clair. They were playing. Sliding in the snow, snowball challenges, HAVING FUN. This was all cut short when someone found cause to walk up N St Clair in the middle of the road, bellowing at the kids to “GO HOME” and that it was “AFTER CURFEW” and if they didn’t comply he would “CALL THE COPS”. The interaction didn’t last long, and the person doing the bellowing ended the kids’ play. Let me take a second to clear something up. Snow is fun, and kids are going to play in it. Furthmore, the neighborhood kids ARE ALLOWED to play in the snow. There is absolutely no curfew in the city of Pittsburgh, and there is also no rule about quiet hours after a certain point in time. This act is completely unacceptable, and it is a crappy thing to threaten to call the cops on kids who are playing legally. Don’t be the person who does this. Thanks, Kara

Highland Park: Small Gray Cat Missing

We haven’t seen our kitty, Honeybun, since Sunday morning. She is small and gray with green eyes. We are hoping that someone unknowingly took her in. She is very friendly, collarless, and sometimes tries to get in neighbor's homes. It’s also possible she is trapped in a garage. Please let us know if you think you’ve seen her in the past 24 hrs. She shouldn’t have wandered more than a block or two from us on Hampton between Highland & N Euclid Janet Jcpaok(a)gmail.com
