TV Recycling - Update

I sent out a request for information about electronics recycling - specifically TVs - a week or so ago, and a lot of people got back to me saying they wanted to know what I found out. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a convenient way to recycle TVs for free, at least not that I could find. Construction Junction used to take them, but when I called, the automated answering machine informed me that this is no longer the case. Another person on the listserv told me about PRC (Pennsylvania Resources Council), which has events throughout the year where you can drop off hard-to-recycle items - http://prc.org/. Unfortunately, you can't recycle TVs for free with them either, and according to the person who told me about this, the events are super crowded and you have to wait in line for hours, so it's really only worth it if you have a bunch of stuff to drop off. Eventually I found my way to Evolution E-cycling, http://www.evolutionecycling.com/, where you can drop off TVs for a fee of $.90/lb at their South Side location (2235 Mary St.). Still not free, but at least you can drop things off any time during business hours. We haven't actually dropped our TV off here yet but are planning to do so soon! If anyone hears of any other way to recycle electronics like TVs, please let me know. We're still interested in a free option, or some place to donate the TV, if one is available. Katie Yates P.S. - the same person who told me about PRC also informed me that it's apparently illegal to throw away TVs, so you have to find some way to recycle them. I didn't actually know this before. However, you should always recycle electronics anyway since electronic waste is really bad for the environment :)
