Dear Highland Park: In celebration of Earth Day 2018, we're having the 1st annual neighborhood clean-up. Throughout the year, our streets become littered with bottles, cans, plastic, paper, and other items. With some teamwork, a little love for our planet, and a bit of hard work, we can brighten up our streets and keep litter out of our waterways and sewers. Or, if you're just looking to add some steps to your fitbit, meet some new friends / neighbors, or get involved in the community, join us rain or shine! In addition to our neighborhood volunteers, our fabulous neighborhood coffee shop, Tazza d'Oro, is sponsoring our neighborhood clean-up by providing all volunteers with a drink stop along our clean-up route! Garden class: how to get FREE plants!!!!!

There are many ways to start new plants, not just by seed. This week, we will learn about some of these methods (division, taking cuttings, layering). As a matter of fact, not only will we learn about them, we will actually propagate via cutting right in class! That's right. I'll be bringing cuttings from various plants, including a fig tree, a cherry tree and raspberry canes. I will teach how to make cuttings and grow new plants from them. Time permitting, I will also bring some perennials for division. If you have any plants (including houseplants) that you would like to propagate, please bring them along, and we will make cuttings! I will provide small containers, soil and all supplies necessary, and you will be able to go home with lots of new plant material! We meet Thursday evenings, 6:30-8:30 pm. Class is $10/person, payable via cash, check or major credit card. No cost for those on a limited income. Call or text for more information. Rachel 412-251-9759

Public Meeting: Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)

The Port Authority has initiated a new round of public meetings to hear from residents about the proposed Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project; on May 2nd, a meeting will be held in East Liberty for all east end neighborhoods effected by the proposal, including Highland Park: *East Liberty Public Meeting* *When:* Wednesday, May 2, 2018, 6:30-8 p.m. Where: Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 250 N Highland Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15206 *Who:* Riders of the 71A, 71B and 71C and P3 bus routes; Residents of East Liberty, Friendship, Highland Park, Homewood, Point Breeze, Point Breeze North and Shadyside; Riders of 61 and 71 series routes who cannot attend a meeting closer to their neighborhood. *Getting there:* The church is less than one block from the 71B (Highland Ave at Station Street) and approximately four blocks from the 71A (Negley at Rural Street); and 71C, 74, 77, 82, 86, 88 and 89 bus routes (Penn Avenue at Sheridan Square) If you're interested the routing, station locations, or service schedule or this project, consider attending; whether you use public transit frequently, occasionally, or not at all, this proposal has the potential to have an impact on our neighborhood, so please take this opportunity to learn more and register your opinion! HPCC Community Meeting THURSDAY

Hello Neighbors! Please join us for the April Community Meeting of the Highland Park Community Council, which will be held tomorrow (Thursday), April 19th, at 7pm at St. Andrews. Our newly-elected Magisterial District Judge Mik Pappas will join us to give an overview of his office and the role of the District Court in the justice system, and Kelsey Salerno of NeighborWorks Western Pennsylvania will give a presentation on credit counseling and first-time home-buyer services offered by her organization.
