Raccoons and groundhogs?!?!?!?!

Is it that our corner of Highland Park (Jackson Street near Heberton) has become the hot new spot for raccoons and groundhogs, OR is everyone suffering from an increased number of visits from these critters? I've captured one of each in just the last week after a level of destruction in our yard that we've not seen in our 25 years here. One of our neighbors has seen at least a half-dozen in her yard. Groundhogs have taken up residence under another neighbor's garage. Raccoons seem to enjoy playing on the swing set of a third neighbor! I've written to Deb Gross' office but I don't really know what can be done. We've had deer wander down from time to time to enjoy breakfast in our vegetable garden, but this invasion seems far more robust and permanent. Any idea why this is happening and how we might mobilize to resolve it? Didn't Granny Clampett have a recipe for groundhog stew? best, ~ Dan
