It seems that just about everyone has been touched by the addiction epidemic affecting the country. In 2016, 613 people died from drug overdoses in Allegheny County. Treatment programs are available for people in need and their families. Message Carriers is a Recovery Support Service Agency whose mission is to provide advocacy and recovery related services to individuals and family members impacted by addiction and/or mental health issues. Message Carriers' 2017 annual fundraiser will be held at Hotel Indigo with featured speaker Allegheny County Coroner Dr. Karl Williams, a silent auction, good food, music and support. Hello Neighbors! Please join us for the October Community Meeting of the Highland Park Community Council, which will be held at 7pm this evening at St. Andrews. The City Department of Mobility and Infrastructure and the Port Authority will be providing an update on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, and as always, we'll also receive an update from Zone 5 Police. Hear two Roots activists-Antwan Saca, a Palestinian Christian and Rabbi Hanan Schlesinger, an Israeli settler-tell their personal stories and seek peace and justice for Palestinians and Israelis.
