Subject: ** Zone 5 Community Update: Week of September 5th - 12th **
Good morning, Zone 5 Neighbors!
Attached is your Community Crime Update for the week of September 5th - 11th.
For those of you who live or work in Homewood, we want to let you know that we will be focusing on the Frankstown Avenue corridor this week, between N. Homewood Avenue and Brushton Avenue. We have received numerous complaints from residents in regards to the loitering, gambling, drug dealing, and violence in that area. We are making that a priority this week and Port Authority Police will be assisting us in this endeavor. Officers will be monitoring this area closely and will be issuing citations and making arrests for any offenses they witness. If you have any information regarding crimes in this area or individuals involved in criminal activity, please e-mail me any of your tips and I will forward them to the appropriate officers and detectives.
Thank you and have a safe week,
Jason

Notable Arrests
9/5/16 at 9:25 PM - 600 block N. Braddock Avenue (Homewood): Zone 5 officers received a tip that a group of males were congregating in the courtyard behind the row houses on N. Braddock Avenue & Kelly Street. The caller indicated that these men were armed with guns. As officers converged on the area, one male fled on foot. Officers are very familiar with this male, Paris Eugene Minard, 22, of Suncrest Street in Beltzhoover, and know him to carry firearms. As officers were chasing Minard, they observed him discard a Glock model 23 pistol into some weeds. Officers eventually caught up to Minard and tackled him to the ground. Minard refused to surrender and punched one officer in the face. Officers eventually subdued Minard and found that, in addition to this incident, he was wanted on (4) outstanding warrants, at least one of them for firearms violations. The Glock pistol was recovered from the weeds, along with marijuana and crack cocaine from the steps were Minard was originally sitting. (167610)
9/7/16 at 1:25 AM - Hillcrest Street & N. Officer Rummel noticed that three vehicles appeared to all be traveling together - the stolen Volvo, a gold Nissan Rogue, and a gray Kia Soul. When Officer Rummel activated his lights on Hillcrest Street, the Kia crashed and the driver fled. Both other vehicles fled as well. The Kia was reported stolen out of the Northside. A short time later, a juvenile male, 15, of Northside, approached a plainclothes officer at the Sunoco gas station (obviously not realizing he was a police officer) and asked about the bus schedule. This officer noticed that the young man was sweating profusely and covered in dirt. Additionally, the young man asked the officer how to get back to Northside. The male was detained and eventually admitted to being the driver of the stolen Kia. (168547)
