Dear Neighbor: We have learned that in spite of 1000’s of emails, petitions with 1,000s of names, formal support for the Ice Rink/Recreation Center by many organizations (Sacred Heart, St. Bedes, Calvary, Depaul School, etc.), we have been told directly that at least some URA board members are ready to vote for 106 more apartments. Give an historic building that has always served to community to developers instead of developing it for a unique resources for all families and people of the East End (and City). If this matters to you please attend the URA Board meeting. We have been told only a packed room by the community will underscore all of our emails and communication (keep those up!). Still need support - Action Dear Neighbor: A massive public response of 1000s of email, several petitions with several thousand signatures each, and other expressions of community opinion made a difference in the Hunt Amory process. Because of this public pressure, the Selection Committee decided NOT to act and passed all 3 proposals to the URA board. This means the High Density Apartment option is still a threat to passed by the powers that be because of $$ considerations – Incredibly this remains a real threat. Your actions are working… BUT we need to KEEP UP THE PRSSURE until this Thursday the 10th. Please take action, RESEND EMAIL 2 groups of people below: 1. Our Elected Officials: Make it clear to Gilman and Peduto that community involvement is just that... they must support what the community has told them they want. They must formally REJECT the apartment option or face the consequence during the next election. 2. The URA Board: Tell them what you want. We have been told that at least 1 member is focused on $$, not community opinion. It is critical they hear directly from you. I can't read another article about mass groups of elephants dying from cyanide poisoning (poachers) or the constant shootings and torture taking place for stupid horrible ivory! * *Did you know that: * "Elephants are among the *most exuberantly expressive of creatures*. Joy, anger, grief, compassion, love; the finest emotions reside within these hulking masses. Through years of research, scientists have found that elephants are capable of complex thought and deep feeling. *In fact, the emotional attachment elephants form toward family members may rival our own."* "Elephants, we all know, are in peril. We humans are waging what amounts to a war against them because they have something we want and cannot make on our own: ivory. The West African country of Gabon holds most of Africa's remaining forest elephants. Their main stronghold, Minkebe National Park and its surrounding buffer zone, was home to an estimated* 28,500 elephants in 2004. By 2012 the number had plummeted to about 7,000*—a loss of 20,000 or more elephants. Please take a moment to check out these 2 amazing organizations in Africa that are working hard in all arenas to help save this incredible animal. The first is the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust based in Kenya. I have visited this Elephant Orphanage in person 4 times and fallen more in love every time. These people do so much great work and I personally have adopted 3 elephants from here. I also give them as gifts during the holidays. Hooker solid oak wall unit and rug

Dear HP Neighbors, Regretfully I must part with a five piece Hooker Solid Oak wall unit. They do not make this like this! The unit is in excellent condition with one lighted glass door top book shelves, drawer and bottom doors with inside shelving. The other big piece is also lighted but the top is open shelving with drawer and bottom doors with inside shelving. Between each piece as well as on each end are three tall skinny open shelves from top to bottom. Case can go straight or in L shape. There are no scratches or dents. Wood is perfect. There is no veneer and the pieces are really heavy! Also for sale is a 10x13 Oriental rug that is red, tan, beige, black and olive green. Rug is like new. Zone 5 Holiday Meet and Greet

Greetings and Happy Holidays, The 3rd Annual Holiday Meet & Greet will take place Saturday, December 19th between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. at the Zone 5 Police Headquarters on Washington Blvd. Please join us as we celebrate the goodness of our community and to meet Zone 5 police officers. Please note that there is no Public Safety Meeting Tuesday December 8. The deadline is fast approaching to donate unwrapped toys for the Tree of Hope Holiday Toy Drive. Toys can be dropped off at East Minister Church on Highland Avenue. The distribution will take place Friday December 18th from 6 - 8:00 p.m. East End neighbors are requested to voice their opinion on the potential use of the Historical Hunt Armory Building on Emerson Street. The URA board meeting is 2:00 p.m. December 10 at 200 Ross Street 13th floor. The committee in support of an indoor ice skating rink is requesting the community to contact Councilman Dan Gilman, Mayor Peduto and Kevin Acklin.
