Dear Neighbor, I write this with a heavy heart. Our 20 lb. wiener dog (hot dog) PJ has left our lives since September 20th. He ran away from the dog-sitter, Kim, who lives on Sheridan Ave., while we were away. Besides being a family member, he was certainly my best friend. He used to sleep under the comforter during the cold days, near my feet, wake-up with me, go for a walk, and have lunch with me. In the evenings I would make his special meal, and then I would take him out to meet the neighborhood dogs, after which we would sit on the top of the stairs and wait for my wife to return. At about 8:30 or 9:00 p.m. he would cock his head and give a sharp “woof” asking me to take him to bed. He would go crazy at the phone when my daughter called from Chicago. He loved my daughter and would compete with her when she played to get back the bone I had hidden. When it snowed, I cleared a path for him so he could do his business. He hates the rain and loud noises. Our hearts break every time we talk or think of him which is almost every minute of the day. Unfortunately, PJ cannot tell you what he really feels. It took us 8 years to know his little quirks, his likes and dislikes. Please return our dog if you have him, or lead us to him if you know someone who has him. I will reward you generously for looking after him, and even help get you a loving dog if you want one. If you feel you don’t want to contact us, please leave him at the Animal Rescue League of Western PA at 6620 Hamilton Ave. I promise I will make you happy. Call out to him gently -- “PJ Boy”, and he will most likely respond. Please do not chase him. He probably is very confused and perhaps very scared. PLEASE CALL: 412-352-0145 or 412-882-5482. Although police presence has been amped up during the day. Last night at 1:30 am 2 more shot were fired in same exact location as the previous weeks shots. 1/2 block from Dilworth. I will be so bold as to say 640 Collins Avenue - were the last shooting occurred. There is an alley there and something is going on there - keep complaining to police people. It was lovely all week not seeing drugs being hand delivered all week this week because police were walking the beat. In fact, I didn't see toothless William once this week. Be safe -

Hello fellow neighbors, Our cat has not returned home and we are worried about her. She prefers to be outside, however, usually every morning, if not every other, she returns home for food. If you know where she might be or have seen her, please let us know. If you have a garage or any openings for shelter, please look to see if she is hiding (thank you). Description: She is a petite female cat with dark grey fur and black stripes with white socks. She is a very friendly cat, on her terms though. She is chipped and has claws. The parents and groups argue that the zoningamendment removes core protections to residential neighborhoods from dangerousindustrial activities. The challengers claim that the amendment violates thepeople’s right to pure water, clean air, a healthy environment, and fails toprotect public health, safety, and welfare by allowing shale gas extraction,drilling, and gas infrastructure to occur so close to where children, familiesand residents live, learn, work, and play.The appeal was filed with the Middlesex Township Zoning Hearing Board. Despitecontinued opposition by parents, the three Middlesex Township Supervisors votedto approve the zoning amendment on August 13th, which allows shalegas extraction, including fracking and related infrastructure, like compressorstations and processing plants, to operate in agricultural and residentialareas. Two of the Township Supervisors had to recuse themselves due toconflicts of interest, but were called back to take the vote in order toachieve a quorum. Only a month later, the Pennsylvania Department ofEnvironmental Protection approved permits to allow Rex Energy to drill andfrack 6 wells at a site called Geyer which is less than a half mile away from3,200 students at the Mars School District campus. “Thezoning changes clearly reflect Rex Energy’s desire to frack in the locationsRex determined to be most cost effective and highlight the company and TownshipSupervisors’ disregard for the health and safety of children and residents,”said Joseph Otis Minott, Chief Counsel and Executive Director for Clean AirCouncil. “Prior to the zoning changes, Rex Energy would not have legally beenable to frack in the same location, even though they had proposed the ideapublicly and received written support from the township.” Dave Denk lives in the Weatherburn Heights communitythat would be immediately downwind of the permitted Geyer gas wells. “Myinvolvement in this case isn’t about preventing all drilling, it’s about enforcingresponsible drilling and it’s about protecting my family,” Denk said. “This type of activity does not belong thisclose to a K-12 school campus or in an area of the township that has beenspecifically designated for densely populated residential development. It is the responsibility of the TtownshipSupervisors to strike a balance between the rights of ALL of the townshipresidents. This includes both thelong-time residents and land owners as well as the newer residents who wereenticed to move here because of the rural beauty of the area, safer, higherrated school district and also by the recent development of residentialcommunities such as Weatherburn Heights and Blackberry Estates.” Maya van Rossum, the Delaware Riverkeeper and headof the Delaware Riverkeeper Network says, “The Pennsylvania Constitution ensures protection of our pure water,clean air and healthy environments for present and future generations. Permitting shale gas extraction so close to aschool filled with children, and throughout the communities where people live,is an obvious breach of this obligation and trust. Our kids and communities need and deserve thethoughtful and concerted attention of our lawmakers and regulators and are entitledto a level of protection that protects them in the present and the future. Allowing shale gas extraction in every partof Middlesex Township, including at the Geyer site, is a betrayal of trust andlaw that the Delaware Riverkeeper Network cannot sit silently by and lethappen.” Rex Energyrecently announced plans to begin drilling the Geyer wells as early as Januaryor February 2015. As a result of the challenged zoning changes, the Geyer wellis likely the first of many proposals to drill or operate gas infrastructurenear the Mars School District and residential areas. MattWalker is the Community Outreach Director with Clean Air Council. “MiddlesexTownship should not have allowed major industrial uses like fracking to operatenear vulnerable populations like children,” said Walker. “The zoning changescontradict sound planning practices and could dramatically change the Mars areainto a heavy industrial and polluting landscape complete with fracking,compressor stations, processing plants and pipelines. The Council is highly concernedabout the air quality and public health impacts to our members and theirfamilies that will come with increased shale gas operations like Rex’s Geyerwell and others. Drilling and fracking 6 gas wells on the Rex Energy Geyer wellpad will emit harmful pollutants into the air near the Mars School Districtcampus where 3,200 children breathe the air every day. Rare for sure, but it is happening this Saturday at 2 PM at Diamond Square in Butler, PA where citizens concerned about climate change, and the dangers of Fracking will be gathering. As part of the #Global Frackdown effort, the Butler Rally will be joining with other groups around the world to protest toxic Fracking. A new Statewide group, Pennsylvanians Against Fracking, calling for a ban on Fracking, will be making it's coming out at the event. The Great March for Climate Action group will make a detour to join the Butler Rally on their march from Los Angles to Washington DC. You are invited to join this historic event promising to be the largest Fracking and Climate Rally in Butler history. There will be entertainment, many speakers, and a March from the Butler Farmer's Market to Diamond Square. There is plenty of free parking in nearby lots.
