Hello neighbors, I am very happy to report that we have started the official Highland Park Garden Club. We had a good meeting in September and started a board of officers. We still have dvacancies. We will discuss, by-laws and office position and have a program on horticulture. We do not have a complete board yet so if you'd like to contribute to the running of the club please let me know. We will have a board meeting at my house (5900 Hampton, corner of N. Euclid and Hampton) on Saturday 12th at 10:00 am. Anyone interested in participating giving input is welcome. We will meet every 3rd Saturday morning at 10:00 am at the Union Project and everyone is invited. Hopefully the weather will cooperate for having a great turn out. If you have a plant that is interesting or unusual or just blooming beautifully please share it with all by bringing it, it name, formal name and history in your garden to the meeting. Mark your calendar for Saturday October 19th at 10:00 AM at the Union Project located at the corner of Negley and Staunton for our general membership meeting. The Highland Park Garden Club will offer education about plants and best gardening practices and work on ideas for beautifying our neighborhood especially focusing on beautifying our commercial Bryant street. All the shop owners on Bryant are invited to the board meeting on the 12th as well as the meeting on the 19th. It is open to everyone in Highland Park and the surrounding neighborhoods. I'm a storyteller currently working through my second year of the D.Min program at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. I start off with those two aspects of who I am because both of those are key to ministry I feel God is calling me towards, which is working to build a bridge between the arts world and the Church. With that being said, I have decided to start by hosting an open mic spoken word night at the seminary on October 25th, starting at 7. People could live whenever they feel the need and there will be no cost. This event is important because it is an opportunity for the stories of the Church community to be shared amongst one another. Stories are what keep us going, keep us together, keep us seeing God at work in the world through the stories of one another's life. I mean, our beliefs are based on the Greatest Story ever told, and I want the story to keep being told, to not be silence, and to make sure that there is no one who is voiceless in our community. So, I am hoping that you will join me in my efforts to get the word out and let all those in your midst that are artistically inclined, whether it be in song, poem, story or testimony, that there is a place for them to share those words and lift them up.
