Hello everyone! My job uses the city crime statistics in our research, so we request them every year. There seems to be an interest in neighborhood crimes among HPers so I wanted to share. Detective Deborah Gilkey from the crime analysis unit will send them to anyone who submits a written request (FAX: 412-323-7850). I'm attaching the last few years. (Remember though that these are raw numbers so the population size of each neighborhood isn't considered!) I hope that they go through, if not, email me and I'll send them to you. Take care, Sherri

[Highland Park] Public hearing for Bryant Street Market inter-municipal liquor license transfer

Dear Highland Park residents, Per Pennsylvania law, City Council must hold a public hearing and vote on all inter-municipal liquor license transfers (this is not true for intra-municipal transfers). As the liquor license that PCRC Bryant, LLC (Bryant Street Market) wishes to purchase will be coming from Millvale, PA, PCRC Bryant has submitted an application to the City Clerk and legislation has been introduced in Council. Portions of the submitted application are available to the public upon request to the City Clerk. In case you missed prior notice of the Bryant Street Market's plan, Rob Collins did email the listserv on September 26th regarding his intent to purchase a license. This morning, he sent an update suggesting that those with questions can email him or contact him at the store (as he will no longer be available at this evening's HPCC meeting as originally indicated). I have copied Rob's original message below including his contact information. The City Clerk has scheduled the required public hearing on Wednesday, October 23rd at 1:00pm. The hearing will be held before the Council President and all interested Council members in the City Council Chamber on the 5th floor of the City-County Building at 414 Grant Street. Typically, the lawyer for the applicant presents the applicant's plans for the license, the applicant may speak, and then members of the public will speak for or against the transfer. Those wishing to speak can register by calling the City Clerk's Office at 412-255-2138. Speakers will be asked to provide their name, address, daytime phone number, and stance: in favor, opposed, or simply commenting. Questions can be direction to the District 7 Council Office at 412-255-2140 or the City Clerk's Office at 412-255-2138. Highland Park Community Council Halloween Parade When: Sunday, October 27, 1:30pm to 3:30 pm Where: Highland Park Victorian Fountain, main entrance to the Park Your little ghouls, goblins, princesses and princes are invited to the annual Highland Park Community Council Halloween Parade. Local children of all ages are invited to join us in costume for the Halloween parade and costume contest. Prizes will be awarded in a number of different categories and delicious snacks will be provided. We also need volunteers to help judge the costume contest and fill out certificates. The parade is being held the Sunday before Halloween, since Oct. 31 falls on a school night and we wanted to give everyone maximum trick or treating time before bedtime. No sign-up required. The Highland Park Community Council is hosting a District 7 City Council Seat Candidates Forum on Thursday, October 17 from 7:30pm to 9:00pm at the Union Project, 801 N. Negley Ave. All five candidates for Patrick Dowd's seat will be participating. The five candidates are: Tony Ceoffe of Lawrenceville Tom Fallon of Morningside Deb Gross of Highland Park David Powell of Morningside James Wudarczyk of Bloomfield The event will be facilitated by the League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh. Carol Emerson, past president of the League, will be the moderator. All District 7 residents may submit questions prior to the event via Twitter (#D7Forum), the HPCC Facebook page or the HPCC email editor(a)highlandparkpa.com<mailto:editor@highlandparkpa.com>. Questions from the audience attending the event will be submitted in written form on notecards that will be made available to all guests. Our goal at the HPCC is to function in an unbiased and non-partisan manner for all of Highland Park. Per our bylaws, the HPCC has not and will not be endorsing any candidate for any office in the City of Pittsburgh. [Highland Park] Pilates group classes and private lessons at Golden Thread Studio

Neighbors, I'm pleased to announce that Golden Thread Studio in East Liberty has expanded and is now offering both group Pilates mat classes and private lessons on the equipment. Right now, group classes will be offered on Tuesdays at 9:30am (the perfect time if you've just dropped your kids off at school) and 12pm (just in time for your lunch break if you work in the area). Classes will be $15 for a drop in, or $10/class if you buy a package of 10. Discounts for professional artists, students, and seniors (with appropriate ID/affiliation such as union membership, school ID, etc) - $12/drop in, $40/4 classes, and $10 for a first time "try it" class. There will also be yoga on Mondays at 7:30am, Wednesdays at 12pm (50 minute class, so you can get back to work), and Saturday at 10am. Gyrokinesis will also be offered in the future with separate pricing, email me if you are interested. I will also be teaching private Pilates lessons using the equipment (reformer, Cadillac, Wunda chair). Prices for privates is $65 for a single session or $240 for 4 sessions. The studio is located on Penn Circle with the entrance right next to Everyday's a Sundae and Cafe (the studio is on the second floor). Hi, I have a My Breast Friend de Luxe nursing pillow in sage like this one http://www.amazon.com/Brest-Friend-Deluxe-Pillow-Light/dp/B000HZI1R2 I think I used it twice, nursing pillows are not my thing, but it is really nice because it has good lumbar support and a pocket to put snacks for you to have close when you are nursing the baby for ever. Now, I don't think I paid $60 for it when I bought it, but something like $35. I want to let it go for $25 OBO. I also have a toddler book "I can share" http://www.amazon.com/Can-Share-Lift-Flap-Karen/dp/0448436116 that we got for our son, but he seems not to have a problem with sharing so afar and we do not want to plant the idea that he might want not to share.
