Positive actions to take locally... Support food commons: ie local users/ consumers become the co- producers of their own needs by organizing to support each other, cooperate more and develop relationships with each other. Purchase more food from local farms, farm buying clubs and farmers markets... and grow more yourselves. Collaborate with neighbors to create block orchards and berry patches, nut groves and perennials that will return each year to provide seasonal food. Dehydrate and can and make a point to learn to stock up on local foods. Keep backyard chickens, rabbits and bees (or help your neighbor who does), and learn how to supplement their nutrition with your own plantings. Share and trade good food plant stock. Learn about local herbs and wild edibles and begin to cultivate them in your garden. [Highland Park] New to the Neighborhood

Hi Highland Park-ers! We are new to the neighborhood! We've only lived in Pittsburgh for about a year and Highland Park only a week! We would love to get to know some of our neighbors--it would be so nice to have friends right around the corner. :) Prior to Pittsburgh, we'd be living close to Philadelphia, but also have put down roots in Baltimore and Boston. However, we're ready to hunker down in Pittsburgh for awhile! We are owners to two dogs, Henry and Harold-- and they're two wild gentlemen, who also love to make friends of the human and canine varieties alike as well.
