Hi Neighbors, The agency I work for, ACTION Housing, Inc. is selling cookbooks as a fundraiser. You may have seen my other emails regarding the program I am with, MyPlace who provides transitional housing for youth who have been in foster care and are homeless or at risk of homelessness. ACTION Housing provides all types of housing and homelessness services to individuals and families in Allegheny County, such as for people with disabilities, the blind and/or deaf community, seniors, and so forth. The list goes on! I'll be taking orders for cookbooks and will be able to coordinate drop off/money pick up. The cookbooks will be available after April 13th. Hi Neighbors, LAST CALL TO TAKE ORDERS FOR OUR COOKBOOK FUNDRAISER! ACTION Housing, Inc.'s Cook book - a hardback cookbook containing 180 recipes from residents at our buildings, staff and family. The proceeds benefit the Donald Noah Client Assistance Fund (which provides emergency monetary assistance for things like bus passes, Giant Eagle Gift Cards, clothing for a job interview, etc.) and the Social Service GAP Fund (which covers items that are not covered under specific grants, etc. for the residents of our buildings). [Highland Park] 50's kitchen table for sale

I am selling my kitchen table from the 50's for $100. The surface is in extremely good shape, with a little rust on the legs. There is an expandable leaf that I featured in the photos. I did not photo it without the leaf, but you can imagine what it looks like. We use it without the leaf. The measurements with the leaf is 58" long. Without, it is 46 3/4" long. It is 29 1/2" wide. 29" tall but with 27 1/2" height for leg room. Buyer must pick up. Please let me know if there is an issue with the link where you can view photos of it. Thank you! [Highland Park] Earthen Vessels Outreach Open House - Friday March 30, 2-6 pm

Hi everyone! Just a reminder that as Rev. Bruce Robison posted last week, Earthen Vessels Outreach (EVO) is having an open house tomorrow (Fri. March 30) from 2-6 pm at our "Pacific Sanctuary" building at 250 S. Pacific Ave. in Bloomfield/Friendsihp. EVO is a non-profit that serves children and families in the East End through after-school programs, summer camps, basketball teams, youth groups, etc. The Pacific Sanctuary is a formerly vacant church building (the former Greater Pittsburgh Gospel Temple) at the corner of Friendship and South Pacific that we purchased in 2007 and have been renovating to be both a facility for our programs and a community center for the surrounding neighborhoods and their children. We would love to have any of you join us for the Open House. So if you have seen the renovations going on and wondered what's going on, if you'd like to find out more about an organization that is doing outstanding work to impact children and families in our area, to find out ways to get involved or whether one of our programs could be a good fit for your kids, or just want to stop in and see how a historic building is being beautifully renovated and put to good use, please stop in and join us for a few minutes tomorrow. Thanks so much to Rev. Bruce for the previous post as well as for the work and support that St. Andrew's did in being part of our renovations, and to any of you who have supported EVO in any way. Improvements at the Market The improvements at the market are ongoing- replacing the roof, and installing a 3 bowl sink at the Kew Park Coffee Bar.  Both projects are progressing nicely and are nearing completion.  We expect them to be completed in the next 2 weeks.   These projects are critical to the future of the market, and represent a big commitment on the part of the coop owners to keep the market operating. *********************************************************************************************** ITEMS AVAILABLE THIS SATURDAY Greenawalt Farm What would Easter be without eggs? The folks from Greenawalt Farms will have lots of them.  I spoke with Ina Greenawalt and she said that they will have a large supply of chicken eggs of all sizes.  They will also have fresh duck eggs and goose eggs.  She mentioned that these larger eggs are often used to decorate for the holiday.  They also have assorted house plants and pasturized poultry manure which can be used as garden fertilizer. J. L. Kennedy Meat Stand...  As always, locally grown meat from the Kennedy's. Please try to get your holiday orders in as soon as possible.  They will also have duck eggs this week. Kistaco Farm... continues to have locally raised apples.  Apple varieties this week include Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Jonagold, Rome, Empire and Idared.  Fresh pressed cider will also be available- plus lots of veggies. Zang's Greenhouse... Special items for this week include brussels sprouts, greens such as kale, collards and red swiss chard. Mini cucumbers.  In the flower department, fresh cut daffodils and a variety of Easter flowers.  You can also order Easter flowers for next Saturday. A summary of fruits and vegetables available throughout the market from Zang's, Greenawalt and Kistaco stands is summarized below.  If you are interested in locally grown, please feel free to ask the farmers which items are local. Good L'Oven Bakery will be back with fresh baked goods. California Fruits and Nuts Over the past few months I have been increasing the selection of organic dried fruits and nuts avaiable.  These new relationships are a result of contacts I made on my last trip to California.  I have two new offerings that just came in! Organic Walnuts- grown on a family owned farm called Rancho La Vina- located in the Santa Rita Hills.  The trees range in age from about 15 to 40 years old.  The variety is called Coastal Paynes.  The nuts are certified organic and are raw (unroasted or pasturized)  They are really delicious with a rich, sweet taste.  They are great for baking or just plain eating. Learn more: http://www.rancholavina.com/ Eco-Dynamic Dates- I personally have always loved dates, both raw and in baked goods.  Some people don't appreciate them, but I encourage folks to give them a try.  I always say that dried fruit and nuts are a great replacement for candy, and that is especially the case with dates.  But they are also very nutricious- packed full of protein and minerals.  They have been consumed by humans for thousands of years. These particular dates are grown on a family owned farm called Flying Disc Ranch.  The farm was started by Robert Lower back in the 1970s.  He is recognized as a pioneer in cultivating dates in California.  The quality of these dates have been recoginized by many chefs and foodies.  They grow many varities of dates- we will offer 2 for sale at the market- Zahidi and Deglet Noor. Learn more: http://flyingdiscranch.com/ PA Made Cheese As I mentioned last week, sheep milk cheese has finally arrived!  This is the Pecorino Romano from Otterbein Acres Sheep Dairy.  The sheep are raised by, and the cheese is made by, the Fisher family of  Newburg, PA which is in Cumberland Coounty.  The flavor is strong and full, but not overbearing.  We will also have fresh curds and some fresh goat milk cheese from RIverview Dairy.
