[Highland Park] Tax Reassessment Appeal

Dear neighbors - My wife and I went down today for our informal review to look into the reassessment on our home. Several things I wish to pass on: 1) 2013 Reassessment values have been taken off the county web site, thus there are none of the "NEW" numbers on the comparables to your home, nor on your neighbors, thus you have no ability to contrast the value that the county is putting on your home and property !!! 2) I printed out a map with our home in the center at least showing the property sizes, and used the old values to fight that. 3) I was lucky and started this process when the 2013 values were still there so was able to write some of the ones I wanted to use down, but when I went to print out the comparables this past weekend, they were gone, so see if you can get those to talk to the people about. 4) Parking is available free of charge with shuttle service, dropping you a block from the County Office Building, at the 2nd Avenue Parking, which is on the other side of the Armstrong Tunnels toward Oakland, from the Jail. All you need to show is your appointment paperwork, and you will get in free of charge. The process itself seemed very easy, but there are a lot of people there !!! We were called within five minutes of our scheduled appointment, and we were back on the shuttle within a half hour of getting there to get to our appointment. Following our discussion on our assessment, we were directed to a scanning room where they scanned our documents into the record of our informal review. We shall hear what they find in about six weeks or so. Hope this is of help to those looking into appealing their assessment. I am just keeping what I would use again if I had another baby, and before I take the rest to GoodWill I thought I would check if anyone in the neighborhood was in need of some items (for free). pants/dresses/tops....various sizes, med to large mostly. Hi Neighbors, I found a city of Pittsburgh dog license tag up at the park yesterday, while walking my dog. It was on the gravel path that runs alongside Reservoir drive. I have a bunch of clothes that need to go, but charities are way too picky about clothes and many just want to sell them. I would like to see them go to someone that needs them and would not sell them. Most of them are small, but there are a few medium. There are T-shirts, sweaters, trousers, work clothes, just everyday clothes. They are organized in: never used, barely used (once or twice, in excellent shape), used but still wearable (they just don't fit me anymore), and honestly only good for pet bedding or projects... or clothes you wouldn't mind to ruin while doing gardening and such. Neighbors, We have raised nearly $4,000 through the generous donations of Highland Parkers to launch our "Neighbors in Need" fund; in partnership with Bloomfield Garfield Corp. Most importantly, $2,000 of these monies have already helped a family avoid foreclosure and will help another avoid eviction. Hello Highland Park Neighbors, In case you have not heard, I just want to let everyone know that Station Street Hot Dogs is now open for business. It has been resurrected by none other than Kevin Sousa of Salt of the Earth fame. Station Street is part of East Liberty history, and dates back to 1915. Stop by and check out their delicious dogs and fries. They are located at 6290 Broad Street, behind the Target building.
