Hi neighbors, Please don't get me wrong. I'm very, very happy that Bryant Street is booming with new and really good quality restaurants and I see that there are more coming. I wish them all well and believe this is good for the neig hborhood. However, for those of us who live near Bryant Street, parking is becoming an issue of concern in relation to all of this activity. I live about 1/2 block off Bryant and I often have great difficulty finding parking even at the far end of my block. I wonder if others are having a problem with this, too? I don't know the solution. I keep hoping that there's a plan to have some off street parking for people coming to visit these restaurants. Is there? Would love to hear from others on this. Claudette

[Highland Park] Park Place Pub now Open! 5719 Bryant St.

Hey neighbors! We're officially open for business after months of remodeling. We are now a non-smoking restaurant and bar offering everything from Tofu Crostinos to Hungry Man Burgers. Everything is fresh and made daily and our (whole) wings are the best in town. We also have daily food specials such as Chicken Biscuits and gravy on Mondays, Meat or Veggie Lasagna on Tuesdays, Wednesday is Chicken Cacciatore, Burritos on Thursday, Linguine w/Mussels on Friday and a daily soup. And, finally, there is pizza! I know it's been a while since there's been a place to grab a slice in Highland Park! Hooray! The outdoor patio will be opening in a couple days (fingers tightly crossed) so keep and eye out for that, too! At the bar we have Guinness, East End Big Hop, Full Pint Chinookie (my fav IPA of the season), Blue Moon, Magic Hat #9, Hoegaarden, New Castle, Troegs, and Yuengling and that's just what we have on tap. A smattering of our bottle selection includes Dogfish Head IPA, Bell's Two Hearted Ale, Stella Artois, Sierra Nevada, Rolling Rock, Moosehead, ect. all of which are available in six-packs (but no more 40's!). We also have a full selection of liquors with more and more local distilleries being added every week. Stop by and check it out! Hi neighbors! I wanted to extend an invitation to all of you about the grand opening of the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh ReStore at at Edgewood Towne Centre (flyer attached). The Habitat for Humanity ReStore sells reusable house building and home improvement materials to the public. The store accepts donated goods which are sold at 30%-50% of the retail value. All proceeds from the sale of donations help place local families in affordable housing in the Greater Pittsburgh area. The ReStore provides an environmentally and socially responsible way to keep good, reusable materials out of the waste stream while providing funding for Habitat’s community improvement work. The ReStore is located at: 1635 South Braddock Avenue Pittsburgh, PA 15213 Directions: Take Exit 77 off I-376 East and follow the signs to Edgewood Towne Centre. Fulton Garden update - come volunteer before we take a break from Mulch Madness! If you've walked by the Fulton Elementary garden lately, you've seen the progress we've made. And if you haven't walked by, please do to see what your neighbors putting their energy together can do. Come join us for our last July volunteer effort on Tuesday the 26th anytime between 6p and 7:30p. We'll be taking a break over the first two weeks of August returning the 16th. You can: donate cold drinks play music loosen dirt pull out weeds spread newspaper or donate it spread the mulch meet a potential husband or wife (can be of the same gender, if so inclined) - maybe a bit of a stretch, but hey, you never know. We have something for everyone, so come join us. We're only slightly more nutty than we were before beginning work in this heat. Margot

[Highland Park] Oak Wilt Hike: Learn To Identify the Disease Tuesday July 26th, 6pm

*Join the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy and Tree Pittsburgh for a hike to learn about oak wilt and see what the disease looks like in our park trees. The walk takes place on Tuesday, July 26 at 6 p.m. in Frick Park.* Attendees will be provided background information about the threat of the disease, see diseased trees in the park, and will also have the opportunity to scout for other possible oak wilt locations within Frick. This event is similar to a training for Urban EcoStewards and Tree Tenders; as always the general public is also welcome. We will be meeting in the Falls Ravine parking lot. We will walk rain or shine; please remember to bring good walking shoes and a water bottle. Where: Frick Park, Fall Ravine parking lot When: Tuesday, July 26, meet at 6 p.m. What to Bring: Please bring a water bottle and wear good walking shoes. Directions: Traveling on either Penn or Forbes Avenue, turn onto South Braddock Ave heading towards Regent Square. Turn right onto Hutchinson Avenue and then make a right onto Lancaster Avenue. Following this trail will directly lead you to the Falls Ravine parking lot/meeting point in Frick Park. -- "Time is how the trees grow.
