Hi all, I just had a great experience using Charlie Martin of James W Martin & Sons, Inc. I had some problems with chimneys not venting properly and had a few scary estimates. I called Charlie (he's the fourth generation in this business so he knows old houses). Not only was he pleasant and prompt, but he took care of the problem for a fraction of what I was told it would cost. His guys were great-even fixed a loose lock on my front door just because it was loose! I would love to see these guys get some work around Highland Park-they were just terrific! Paula Flaherty

Hello future neighbors, My fiance and I (currently Bloomfield residents, but looking for a home in HP) are getting married this July 23rd in Pittsburgh, in my sister's back yard, near Highland Park. We're having a very small ceremony (just our immediate families) and are just one picnic table-style bench short of covering our seating requirements for our guests. On Sunday, June 19, between 1045am and 215pm, 700 block of N Saint Clair, someone kicked in our garage door and only took an old 3 speed used by our ten year old. It is a girls bike, reddish-orange, with and EEFC sticker on it. If you happen to see it, please email me. We did call the cops and filed a report. Thanks, Sarah

[Highland Park] blue carpet for sale

I'll take $10 for this carpet, about 5x7, maybe a bit larger, that was used as an older kids carpet in a home with dogs. (no smokers!) It is blue, and brighter than it appears in the photo. The creases you see will most likely go away; I think they are there bc I folded it up for a week. Please email if you are interested & you can pick it up this evening. Jana

Dear Neighbors, My son and his friend are doing recreational rowing at Steel City Rowing in Verona, on M/W/F from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. It runs this week, next week, the week of July 4 (after the holiday) until July 8th. They get personal coaching and it's a great learning experience. The river is beautiful in the morning. It is really close, just down Allegheny River Blvd. If you have kids over 12 there is room for them. It is $50 per week. If you are interested, send me an email & I will email you the application and waiver. You can show up this Wednesday or Friday morning, or start next week.
