Dear funny and serious neighbors, Your overwhelming response..over 40 responses...was most encouraging, however, it seems that there isn't much that can be done. The article from Penn State was fascinating. Thank you. In general, throwing them outside, vacuuming them up, throwing them in a Dawn solution, or flushing them down immediately are ways of disposing. Tightening windows helps. Orkin came out and they can't do much either...you'd think....oh well... I did see something on the news that will be coming out soon. There is some kind of container that is placed outside that attracts them and when they enter, it kills them. I wonder if it's a scam or if it just might work. Anyway, thank you. I got a good laugh out of some of your comments. And yes, my dog won't bother with them either! You guys are great. Linda and Bill Evans

Hello everyone, I am doing some research on some communities as well as learning about my own community (Highland Park). I wanted to know on a volunteer basis how everyone feels about their community, if you are a member of the Highland Park Community Council why did you join and what impact did you hope to bring to the neighborhood or the group? Hi All, I'm a 25 year old massage therapist and playwright from Boston who has been following the Highland Park listserv at the suggestion of a good friend who lives in and loves the neighborhood. I have fallen in love with Pittsburgh over the past few years, and am planning to move down on or around June 1st of this year. I'm in the market to rent a modest 1 bedroom apartment, not exceeding $600 with utilities included or $500 without utilities. If anyone has any leads, they would be much appreciated! February 16, 2011 - 8:40pm | by Mosser Casting FILM FRIENDS WHO WANT MOVIES TO CONTINUE COMING TO PITTSBURGH: It was been reported that there are as many as five feature films now scouting in Pittsburgh, including the next installment in the "Batman" series, "Dark Knight Rises". It has been released that Governor Corbett has put a freeze on the PA Film Tax Credit until after the budget is finalized next month. The producers of at least two of the films that are currently scouting have said that if the money is not released they WILL go elsewhere and Pittsburgh will lose millions of dollars in revenue. Crew people, actors, vendors, hotels, and extras will lose countless jobs. Call, write, fax, or email your state representives (members of the House and Senate), as well as Governor Corbett and tell them to release the tax credit so we can all work on films this spring and summer.
