[Highland Park] Short term housing for a family

We have some friends who need housing for a few months (3-4 or so) starting in April. They are a family of 4, with two small children, and would need a furnished place. We have some toddler furniture (bed, gate, etc.) that we can lend to them, so that is not a necessity. If you have something available for those dates, please let me know! Thanks, Laura Schaefer

MEETING ANOUNCEMENT "SCENIC PITTSBURGH" ADVOCATES FOR ELECTRONIC BILLBOARD LEGISLATION TO BE NATIONAL MODEL "Mayor's proposal includes good guidelines, has potential to be good policy" PUBLIC MEETING - Thursday at 2 p.m. Scenic Pittsburgh Executive Director Mike Dawida and Scenic America Executive Director Mary Tracy will be available to discuss Pittsburgh's zoning ordinance proposal and recommend changes that could make legislation recently presented by the Ravenstahl administration the model to be copied across the nation. Dawida and Tracy will answer questions at a public meeting held at CCI Center, 64 S. 14th Street, South Side. At the briefing, representatives from the City and Pittsburgh's preservation community also will answer questions regarding how to prevent billboard blight. ISSUES - "While Scenic Pittsburgh would prefer to follow the lead of four states and more than 1,000 communities by proposing a citywide electronic billboard ban, we will support reasonable regulation that limits billboard size, brightness, motion and locations," said Dawida concerning proposed legislation to regulate electronic billboards in Pittsburgh. "Unfortunately, the ordinance as proposed still allows for potentially hundreds of electronic billboards across our city." IMPACT - Electronic billboards could significantly change the appearance and character of neighborhoods across Pittsburgh. Under the new legislation, electronic billboards located on the North Shore will be clearly visible from the scenic overlooks in Mount Washington, the West End and Fineview. The legislation would also green light a "Vegas-like" strip on the North Shore. South Side billboards would be visible from Downtown, and Spring Hill will see billboards in Lawrenceville. Existing billboards will be converted to electronic billboards along major routes such as Saw Mill Run Boulevard, Penn, Liberty, Perrysville, and West Liberty Avenues, Banksville Road, and Butler Street. ECONOMICS OF BILLBOARDS - Wherever they are located, billboards lower adjacent property values. Although billboards earn thousands of dollars per month and derive their value solely from public investment in roads, billboard companies have escaped having to pay user fees or lease payments to access the public space. Billboards represent a significant source of revenue for some municipalities. SAFETY ISSUES - Electronic billboards present new hazards as they distract drivers with multiple messages. Billboards are meant to be distracting, resulting in a true safety hazard for drivers. [Highland Park] Black kitty cat

Hey, all. I was trying to trap a feral cat last night, and this morning I came upon a lovely, long-haired black cat in my trap. Clearly well-cared for. It had a red collar with a bell. No tags. If this cat is yours, he/she was at Highview Street between Wellesley and Avondale this morning. I believe I wounded his/her dignity, but otherwise the cat remains quite healthy. Thanks! Rachel
