Greenawalt Farm Of course their specialty is locally grown eggs, which are still available.  They also have locally grown squashes, 5 different varieties including spaghetti cooking pumpkins, and acorn.  These have been stored from the fall and will only be available for a few more weeks. Kennedy Farm Family Meat Stand Their meat is locally grown in Butler County.  It is fabulous stuff.  Chickens, beef and pork are weekly staples.  This week their specials are: Local lean ground turkey from Butler County Boneless pork loin Beef pot roasts, like rolled rump, sirloin tip, top/bottom round, arm/shoulder roasts and chuck roasts Local honey and bee pollen from Butler County Please order via phone only*  Please call all orders in to the farm #724-898-2316, from 9am—9pm on Mon-Fri. The Saturday stand # is 412-661-1875. They have a lamb day and a veal day coming up.  Both are exceptional probucts.    Kistaco Farm They will have 6 to 8 varieties of fresh locally grown apples (from their farm in Armstrong County).  Saturday they had Macintosh, MatsoCrispin, Empire, Jonagold, Red and Golden Delicious and Fuji.  They also have fresh pressed cider that is made with a variety of apples.  This is the best cider available in Pittsburgh, in my humble opinion.  Tim Hileman, the owner of Kistaco said the apples and cider will be available for many weeks to come.Tim also makes homemade all natural peanut butters.  He will be providing free samples this Saturday.  Zang's Greenhouse Rick loves to bring in locally grown items from his place as well as other Butler County farmer.  Here is what he will offer: Pennsylvania mushrooms, several varieties- crimimi, shitake, yellow oyster, portabello and of course white button.  Although these same varieties may be available at some grocery stores, these are guaranteed to be very fresh, which is important for mushrooms.  They are also offered at very reasonable prices. Micro greens- grown by a farmer in Butler County Popcorn shoots- quite interesting tasting Red and white potatoes, grown in Butler County Shallots, one that Rick personally grows and boy are they good.  I only discovered shallots a few years ago and they have really expanded my cooking. Rick still has root veggies, but they will only last about 3 weeks more- beets, parsnips, turnips and carrots Celeriac- very interesting looking veggie, I am seeing on the menus of more and more fancy restaurants. Rick also grow potted flowers in his greenhouse, and he brings those in throughout the winter.  They can certainly brighten up a dreary winter day. Riverview Dairy The goat cheese that Sam and Susie Byler make up in Clarion County is excellent.  We have several kinds of fresh chevre and a very good goat milk feta.  Many people who sign up for CSAs get it in there boxes throughout the summer, but we are one of the only locations to sell it through the winter. [Highland Park] Wanted: 3 large planters

My husband rescued and brought home three large plants in pots that worked in a pinch but won't do the trick long-term. We're looking for some non-plastic planters in the 18-24" diameter and height range. They do not need to match. I looked at Home Depot but theirs are a little more than I'm willing to pay for free plants. Thank you! Heather

[Highland Park] mayor's 311 complaint line

This is just a request to be civil towards one's neighbors in using the 311 line. Someone reported that snow remained in front of my house and I received a citation. Well, my wife arrived home from a Texas vacation very late Saturday night. Then, Sunday, my youngest daughter fell very ill and progressively worsened til being admitted to Children's Hospital that evening. I was away on a business trip and Monday morning commenced the journey back to Pittburgh arriving here at Midnight and going straight to the hospital. Tuesday, we spent all day at the hospital except I made a mad dash home to collect some supplies (fresh clothes, toys for my daughter, etc.). I also cleared a pathway down my sidewalk. But, I have a corner lot with two double wide sidewalks so I wasn't going to spend my time clearing every last inch rather than be at the hospital. My wife and I always in normal circumstances clear the snow. Also, last year in the big blizzard I cleared a pathway (until our city morons dumped mounds of snow on my walk from the front end loaders that came in days late), helped a neighbor clear theirs, and helped push several cars that were stranded. So whomever had their stroll impeded (you certainly weren't walking to work in Highland Park nor needing to traverse my walk to get to your car), next time why don't you just cross the street if you can't handle 3 inches of slush (I grew up in Connecticut - that's what boots are for). Think about what the circumstances might be. My wife was already upset with the medical emergency and nearly became distraught at running home for the first time in 3 days and finding the citation (from our city that can't clear their own snow).

We like to think of it as no reservations needed - just come on by. - For now, gift cards issued by Point Brugge cannot be used at Park Bruges. I have a few bags of outgrown baby girl's clothes that I'd been planning to take to the thrift store. Since that has't happened yet I thought I'd offer then up for free. The clothes are mostly in the 3-9 month size range. Take all or some - it's up to you. There will be more coming, so if anyone has a child younger than ours you're welcome to our hand-me-downs.
