[Highland Park] Cat fatality in Morningside - all black fur (forgot to check sex)

I'm sorry to say I removed a gorgeous, all-black cat (young, I would guess less than 2 years old) wearing a flea collar from the 1200 block of Morningside Ave. this morning (9.3.2010). I was walking my dog and the cat must have been hit within the hour before we passed by. I couldn't just leave the cat in the street. My neighbors didn't know who the cat belonged to but many said the cat had been coming onto their porches, (the 1200 block of Morningside Ave.) He(?) had been spending the most time on one porch where the family was putting out food and water, and they are devastated but said it wasn't their cat. One of the neighbors, a landscaper, said he would bury the cat but would hold the body in case someone might want to claim it. I imagine he'll have to bury the cat this evening or tomorrow at the latest. I believe the cat had green/gold eyes, and feel pretty confident he was killed instantly and did not suffer.
