Dear Neighbors, We are considering the Waldorf School pre-K program for our son and are interested in whether anyone has any experience with that program, or with the school in general. Also, I have been trying to get more information about St. Andrew's Nursery School. After many days of calling and not reaching any person or even an answering machine I have to wonder whether the school is still in operation. Does anyone have any information about that program? I want to thank everyone for all the incredible cards, letters, pictures, gifts, and donations we received. Like all humane groups, 2009 was not the best year for us and we found ourselves struggling to make ends meet more than once - but with the help and support of so many good friends, we made it - and we are continuing to save lives. We desperately need your continued support in 2010 - we cannot do this without your help. The snow and ice and cold have almost stopped adoptions. Only the most hardy of souls have made it out to find their new furever friend. Hopefully, the weather will soon give us a much needed break. There are a few new faces here. Some of our recent rescues have included Wrangler, who at 9 years old found himself in a kill shelter - abandoned by owners who could no longer care for him. Wrangler Wrangler is now safe at our vet's facilities in Huntington, WV and will make his journey east to us this coming weekend. We have also rescued Pete. OK, he's about as golden as I am, but his owners (who lived in our neighborhood) moved last summer and left Pete and his "brother" in an outdoor run. Someone must have thrown some food over the fence and topped off the putrid water supply until the house was sold - at which time Pete and his brother were scheduled to be dropped at the local high kill shelter to be euthanized. We couldn't let that happen to Pete. Pete Pete is a sweetheart who loves everyone. He is also very unique - he has 6 toes on his rear feet (5 real toes and a dew claw). We're also so happy to report that DJ and JoJo found their forever homes over the holidays and that Betsy (another Senior Special Girl) will go to her long term foster Mom this week. We are still looking for that special home for Toby and Bubba. They've been together their entire lives and are bonded. They are VERY well behaved boys who get along with everything and everyone. We will consider long term foster care for them - - - - - - - we just would like to see them live out their years in the comforts of someone's home. We are in the preliminary stages of planning a fundraiser for very early Spring. In these hard economic times, it is imperative that fundraising be a large part of our plans. We are hoping to have a fundraiser in the Charles Town, WV area. If you have any ideas for fundraising, please share them with us. In these hard economic times, every dollar helps! If you would like to help with the early spring fundraiser, let me know. Lastly - we need transporter help. Due to some very unfortunate incidents, we will only use our volunteers and supporters to help move dogs. If there is an area in which you would be comfortable transporting, please let me know. [Highland Park] snowy sidewalks

As a pregnant woman who walks 5-6 blocks to the bus stop daily, I just wanted to let all of you know that I appreciate those who take the time to clean off their sidewalks. It is greatly appreciated, especially since we've had several days of snow and a lot of buildup on the sidewalks. Interestingly, there is a daily city fine for sidewalks that are not cleared off. Thanks again to all of you who shovel and salt!

We are moving on Saturday and have a lazy-boy recliner that will not be going with us. It's designed to go against a wall. The recline transition is a little stiff, but comfortable in either position. Comes with the original paperwork and instructions on how to adjust the recline. [Highland Park] Sledding hill refuse

Hi! I returned to the sledding hill near the King Estate yesterday (Monday) with my kids, and have some useful things to report: 1) It is mainly ice now; while fun for speed demons, it cannot handle more than 5-10 people using it at a time. 2) There was a lot of debris left over from the last few days of intense sledding. I put all of the trash into the now-overflowing bin at the corner of Elgin and Negley, and all of the personal items (gloves, hats, garbage can lids, socks (!!!), vegetable oil spray can, etc) onto the rock formation right near the driveway entrance to the King Estate. So if you went sledding in the bowl over the last few days, and find yourself missing a piece of outer-gear, check the rocks! (I assume the vegetable oil was to make the bottom of a sled be faster/slicker; I will be sure to throw it out the next time I am down there if no one has taken it.) I also found several alcohol containers. I would like to mention that when I drove by the Frick Park sledding hill last Friday evening, there were 2 ambulances there, answering an after-dark sledding crash. Do be careful out there! And don't leave glass bottles where little kids can crash into them--Thanks! --Emily King Ave
