I'm looking for a small space to setup a drum kit because I would really like to practice, but don't want to create a noise disturbance. Does anyone have any ideas or options for a cheap space (like a garage or shed?) that I could rent/share and not bother anyone? Thanks! Brian

Just wanted to share a story from KDKA news last night.....If you are looking to make an effective donation to the disaster in Haiti, a good route seems to be through the Hospital Albert Schweitzer www.hashaiti.org It was founded by a descendant of the Mellons, has various Pittsburghers on its board and staff, and even has a "Friends of" office here in Point Breeze. The hospital is located 40 miles from Port-Au-Prince, is itself undamaged, and, according to the news story, appears to be handling a large burden of the sick and injured. It's an easy Pay Pal donation. Thanks. Amy

If anyone has questions or concerns regarding the recent burglaries and/or thefts from vehicles in the Highland Park area, I urge you to attend the Highland Park Community Council Monthly Meeting In attendance, we will have Pittsburgh Police Major Crimes Commander Thomas Stangrecki, Acting Commander Kevin Kraus of Zone 5 Police Station as well as Detectives from the Burglary Squad to answer any and all questions and concerns of our neighborhood pertaining to these matters. The meeting will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2010, 7:00 p.m. at St. Andrews Church, 5801 Hampton Street (between N. St. Clair and N. East Liberty Farmers’ Market Update Hello Highland Park Neighbors, I want to remind you that the East Liberty Farmers Market is open year round- every Saturday from 5 AM to 12 Noon. The market is located at 344 North Sheridan Ave., adjacent to the Home Depot parking lot. A great selection of products are available. The Kennedys are still bringing in fresh, locally grown meat. And the other farmers- Zang’s, Kistaco Farm, and Greenwalt’s are bringing in a great variety of fresh vegetables and fruits. Kistaco still has locally grown apples and cider! Fresh eggs, locally made cheese, bread and much more. Of course, we will be brewing the coffee- Kew Park- fresh from Jamaica. We just got a new shipment today. Boy, does it taste good on a cold morning- which we have been having a lot of lately. Whole beans are available for sale. Also, Marco and Maria are now making hot chocolate and squeezing fresh OJ. See you at the market. Fresh brewed and whole bean coffee will be available at the market. Kew Park Coffee is being brought to you directly from the farm by the Lagnese family of Highland Park. The coffee is roasted and shipped directly from Jamaica to Pittsburgh on a weekly basis. It does not go through a distributor or wholesaler, and thus does not sit on a shelf in a warehouse. The East Liberty Farmers Market operates year round and is open every Saturday from 5 am until 12 noon. The market is located behind Home Depot. The East Liberty Farmer’s Market has been a part of our community since 1947! The market features a great variety of locally grown and made items including meats, fruits and vegetables, bread, eggs, cider, cheese and much more. The Kew Park Story Kew Park Estate is a well-known coffee estate located high in the hills of the parish of Westmoreland, in Western Jamaica. Coffee has been grown on Kew Park for over 200 years. Currently, a total of 35 acres of Arabica coffee is grown at Kew Park, and is widely regarded as among the best Jamaican coffees. The coffee farm is part of a larger 2,200 acre farm that features citrus and other fruits, as well as beef cattle, pigs, chickens and hardwood tropical trees—all grown and raised using sustainable methods. The farm also specializes in the production of essential oils and aromatic fragrances. Kew Park was granted one of the first “Estate Grown Coffee” designations issued by the Jamaican Coffee Industry Board. The Estate Grown Coffee status allows Kew Park to process and market the coffee both locally and for export. Kew Park is a family run operation—owned and operated by Peter Williams and his wife Gina Green. The Williams family has farmed Kew Park for five generations. They take great pride in the way they grow and process their coffee. The Kew Park farm provides livelihood to many families in the surrounding communities. [Highland Park] Turn signal use near the Parklane

Might all HP residents traveling from One Wild Place toward Negley Avenue consider consistently using their RIGHT turn signal when approaching the Parklane. I would like to think that all turning left onto Bunkerhill Street are already properly using their LEFT signal. However, the typical pattern of approach at that intersection seems to be NO turn signal. Every effort to indicate turn intent at that intersection will be helpful.
