Hi, I have two boxes of cooking magazines free to a good home: lots of Cooks' Illustrated, Cooks' Country, Gourmet; plus a couple of each of the following: Martha Stewart, Wine Spectator, Cucina Italiana, Intermezzo, Edible Allegheny..and so forth. Also some holiday cooking specials (think 101 Cookies, Holiday Baking...). Almost all are from the past two years. Whoever takes them has to take all two boxes. Anyone want them? lori

[Highland Park] dirty bucket part deux...

Hello Neighbors, The Rubbermaid container full of dirt is still in front of our house so a) (and probably most likely) no one really wanted a bucket of dirt or b) my original post was misleading. The tub is not actually right in front of our house - it actually looks like it's in front of our neighbor's house and is often hidden by cars parked on the street. If you are interested in the tub, it is at the far right end of our wall (looking directly at the house) - a big gray container. A few weeks ago I had asked for recommendations for Masons/Concrete Contractors. Thanks to all for your replies and thoughts. After looking at different concrete jobs around the neighborhood, we felt that DiBucci's work looked the best. Every job of his that we saw was flawless. Puccurelli (sp?) was another contractor whose work we saw that looked particularly good, although we didn't get any recommendations for him. I had used him many years ago to build a wall and was quite happy with his work. Below is the list of responses we received. Many Thanks! We haven't had our porch rebuilt, but we did have our backyard and driveway bricked over and one wall of our garage rebuilt all as one job and it is very well done. It was done by Filippo Surra, (412) 826-9502. Lori Kasenter Al Novak, owner of Unique Stone, is excellent with concrete, brick, & stone work 412-956-5725 Yes, I had two chimneys torn down and rebuilt by Anderson's Chimney and Masonry specialist. I initially thought that they only did chimney repairs and cleanings. To my surprise Mr. Anderson was very knowledgeable in masonry repairs and restorations. Mr. Anderson came over with three other workers and built scaffolding, torn down two chimneys which are approximately 40 feet off the ground. They rebuilt both chimneys in 5 days. They were very professional, neat and clean. I would highly recommend Anderson's Chimney and Masonry services to perform and complete all your masonry needs. The number to ANderson's chimney and Masonry services is 412 779-7529.. DiBucci is the best. Be prepared to spend big $ if you want to do it correctly. The best in town. Tom Thorp Construction 412.441.3478 he is a local from Morningside and I am sure they can give you addresses of work they have completed. Great, honest, experienced business owner. We recently had concrete work done by Cunic construction (Sal-owner) We got LOTS of estimates and referrals (several outrageous- paying for the name!) and found them to be reasonably priced and good work. You can stop to check ours out although it has not been sealed as of yet- must cure for 2wks.-our top steps , portico base and front step under the french doors were done. His #is 412-537-9051 Hi, we just used dibucci and brothers for our driveway and 2 steps and I cannot recommend them more highly..They are prompt, professional, and clean! We had a versa-lok patio put in 5 years ago by Anthony Landscaping. The fellow we dealt with was Chuck Palmieri. He made very specific recommnedations about what would work for the? patio and seemed good as did the work for a year. But the patio began to buckle as the sand beneath it settled. They came back once to put more sand beneath it but it kept settling unevenly. I called last Spring to ask them to fix it again as it was still under warranty and they agreed to come do it -- but never did. I let him know we have small children next door and I was concerned they would trip and fall right off the raised patio. After six weeks and many phone calls Palmieri told me he had too much work to get to us anytime soon.? So in my view they failed to honor the warranty and I wanted people to know. I am currently looking for someone else to fix their work.

Hello all: I've been reading the vendor/contractor warnings and have been surprised that there have been so many of them. The thought that occurs to me is that there seem to be plenty of instances where getting an attorney involved could make a world of difference. A vendor tends to respond to a phone call or letter from an attorney MUCH differently than a call or letter from you or me. But generally the problem is (1) we have no clue who to call (and wind up throwing darts at the Yellow Pages) ... and (2) we figure it will cost too much. I've found a very happy solution for myself, and I've used them on all sorts of legal or legal-related issues -- and that is a membership with PrePaid Legal Services, Inc. For an insanely small amount of money each month (cancellable at any time with nothing silly like an early termination fee), I get unlimited telephone consultations on both personal and business questions. I am also entitled to a phone call or letter on my behalf on each issue, all included in the monthly fee. Each time I've needed them, it was like using a muscle I never knew I had!
