Neighbors: Liberty Elementary continues to hold fundraisers for the fifth graders' trip to Washington, D.C., at the end of May. The kids are really excited. So, another babysitting opportunity! I've attached the flyer. Please feel free to email me if you have questions. I can say that all the kids who have come to be "babysat" have had a good time, and it is also nice to see the fifth graders taking responsibility for such events. I think it is much more useful as a fundraiser than selling yet another round of candy! Hi Neighbors: We had a fantastic spring party on Saturday at the Farmhouse. Over 150 children attended and we were blessed with good weather and even some sunshine. The old- fashioned relay races were a big hit with the kids and their parents! The kids loved winning their race ribbons. The arts and crafts offerings were expansive and wonderful and a big thank you to the volunteers who were busy with those activities all afternoon. Mark Hayward's yo-yo/spinning top show & yo-yo workshop was the highlight of the afternoon. Jana's kids were so enthusiastic that they decided to take yo-yo lessons from Mark. He lives in the neighborhood and is available for your next event and/or for lessons. The snacks were phenomenal & thank you to everyone who baked and donated food. The coffee from Enrico's was greatly appreciated & a big thank you to Amy for that. Cut and paste the link below into your web browser to see photos of the party. If your kids age 7 and older are interested in being part of the Kids' Committee to help plan future kids activities in Highland Park, please bring them to a meeting at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22 (Election Day) at the Farmhouse. The public schools are closed that day. We also welcome any adults who wish to be part of the Childrens' Committee. Our next event is the June Bryant St. festival. I have been meaning to send out this message for a week now, since I received several questions about the yard sale. It seems a little early for me, but I admire folks who can look to the future and plan ahead. The yard sale is held the first Sunday in June every year, so mark it down for 2009. Bob The Annual Yard Sale Sunday, June 1st Clean out your basements and attics and join your neighbors in one big yard sale. For a fee of $12, the HPCC provides sellers with balloons and signs, does the advertising, and provides shoppers with a map of the sales. Maps can be picked up by shoppers at 9 am on the day of the yard sale at 3 intersections: N Highland and Stanton; N Negley and Hampton; Bunkerhill and N St Clair. If you would like to have a sale at your house, send a $12 check (payable to HPCC) to Judy Wolfe at 5910 Wellesley Avenue, Pittsburgh PA 15206, by Wednesday May 28th at 5 pm.
