[Highland Park] House Tour Volunteers

Volunteers are STILL needed for the Highland Park House Tour! Date - Saturday, September 29th Time - 11am to 5pm Volunteer Shift #1 - 10:45am to 2pm Volunteer Shift #2 - 1:45pm to 5pm All volunteers will receive a free ticket for the house tour to use during the shift in which they are not working. Tickets are $15 pre-sale and $20 day-of-tour, so this is a great value for just giving up 3 hours of your time. We have 15 fabulous homes on the tour this year (plus St. Andrew's and Dilworth) and we would hate for any of our homeowners to have a bad experience because we can't find enough volunteers to work in their houses. At this point we only have enough people to have one volunteer per house, and that is simply not enough! Please help us make this great neighborhood event a sucess again this year! I've learned of this meeting through my employment at Carnegie Mellon's Heinz School of Public Policy and Management; it is one that will probably be of interest to many who read this list. Below is the information about a meeting to discuss a new initiative for the Pittsburgh Public Schools to establish a school to provide secondary learning opportunities in science and technology to the district's students. The meeting is open to the public: The Pittsburgh Science & Technology Secondary Learning Community: A Community Discussion will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2007 from 5:30 to 8:30p.m. at Reizenstein School, 129 Denniston Avenue, East Liberty. Learn about plans to open this new school, potentially with 6th - 9th graders in August of 2008. This is an opportunity to gather information about the innovative design and offer your feedback. First and foremost I would like to thank the Highland Park Community for the wonderful response to my previous e-mail:) I got a lot of great new residential cleaning customers in Highland Park, and I have met some very nice people:) I am currently looking for new commercial clients for example office buildings ect. We have a great insurance policy, workers compensation, ect. We are not new to the commercial industry and would love to expand into new beginnings with companies. Once again, the Pony Rides scheduled for last Sunday have been rescheduled for this coming Sunday, September 16, and will begin in the St.Andrew's Churchyard at around 12:15 p.m.--immediately following the 11 a.m. service. The Coffee Hour reception after the 11 a.m. as well will be a time for us all to give thanks for the gifts Victoria Cole--and Mike and Sasha--have brought to our St. Andrew's family over many years, as we bid them godspeed in their move to New Hampshire later this fall. [Highland Park] [Update.unionproject] Special Email Announcement: Urban Fusion Cafe and Starbucks Introduce Youth Barista Program

Beginning Monday, September 17th, Urban Fusion Café will be serving Starbucks coffee and tea products. The Union Project is proud to announce a partnership with Starbucks for our new Youth Barista Program, an onsite skills training program for young adults. Over the coming year this program will train 30 young men and women aging out of foster care. Forty percent of foster youth end up homeless in their first 2 years out of the system. This program works to change that number locally by providing youth with skills and job placements in café and food service, allowing them to earn a living wage. Starbucks will be donating all coffee, tea, syrups and paper products used in Urban Fusion Café and for training in the Youth Barista Program. Other vital partners for the Youth Barista Program include the Social Innovation Accelerator, FamilyLinks, Kitchens with Missions, and the Allegheny County Department of Human Services. Please join us Friday October 5th from 6-8pm for a free coffee and dessert reception and the official introduction of the Youth Barista Program to our community. FYI: When selling anything, a scout (I can only speak for the boys) should be in Class A uniform.......that is navy shirt for Cub Scouts and beige shirt for Boy Scouts with all appropriate patches, ie. Pack or troop number, US flag, council name. Please don't let the current rash of "fund-raising kids" deter you from purchasing from scouts who may soon be canvassing their own neighborhoods with an adult, selling popcorn - "Trails End Popcorn" to raise money for the pack/troop/themselves to go to summer camp, etc. The popcorn sale is a Boy Scouts of America sponsored fundraiser held across the country at this time of the year only.
