Hi Neighbors! At the police commander's suggestion in her recent e-mail to all of us, I signed up this morning for e-mail alerts on the Citizen Observer web site. One of the first e-mails that I got is below, and it includes valuable information for those of us who see something suspicious/fishy/odd on the streets of our neighborhood and don't know what to do about it. While waiting for my children's bus during the warmer months, I saw some unusual things that looked like possible drug activity. But I wasn't sure what to do, and it didn't seem to warrant a 911 call -- particularly because I was worried that I might be wrong in my assumptions. It helps to know that there are non-emergency numbers to call to let the police know about what we see in case they think that it warrants stepped-up patrols on certain blocks or more investigation. Also, in general this Citizen Observer alert system seems to be a good resource for those of us interested in keeping our neighborhood safe! It seems like Friday mornings won by a slight margin. We're on for next Friday morning December 14th at the Pittsburgh Toy Lending Library at 9:30. The PTLL is located in the Methodist Church at the intersection of Centre and Aiken. There's parking near the entrance. The charge is 5 dollars per child with a maximum charge of 10 dollars per family but the first visit is free (yippee!). Also, there are discounted yearly memberships available for those who are willing/able to volunteer 2-4 hours per month. I'm excited about seeing everyone there. I'll be the one with a pink carnation in her lapel...just kidding! If you have any questions please email. Also, maybe we could alternate days between Friday and Monday every couple of months so some of the people who can't go on Fridays right now would be able to go for a bit? Leesa

Nominated for two Academy Awards, the 1953 Irving Pischel film *Martin Luther,* starring Niall MacGinnis as Luther, is widely acclaimed as one of the finest works in the genre of historical film biography. The Adult Programs Committee presents a showing of the film this Saturday, December 8, at 7:30 p.m., in Brooks Hall of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Highland Park, as a feature in the ongoing series, "Nomads and Pilgrims," reflecting on the nature of our diverse spiritual journeys. The program is free and open to all. We're invited to arrive a few minutes early for conversation--and to bring appropriate "movie night" refreshments to share. [Highland Park] someone looking for unlocked cars, 800 block of Heberton

Just a friendly reminder to lock car doors. When I looked outside my window this morning, the three cars that were in my line of vision all had snow "prints" on the passenger side windows that were tell tale for someone looking for an unlocked car. I noticed this about 9am, and the "print" was slightly snowed over, so it had been probably an hour or so earlier. It was only on the odd numbered side of the street. I spoke to two neighbors, which is how I saw that the even numbered side didn't have the same thing happen. I'm looking for a handyman to look at my washer. It's leaking and I'd rather not have to spend money to get a new one. Does anyone know of a reasonable handyman to do something like that? Or if anyone could give me some tips if they've dealt with something similar that would be great.
