Hello neighbors, As a New Year's resolution, my husband -- who plays violin, mandolin, octave mandolin and guitar -- wants to explore playing the cello. And we wonder if any one of you has one gathering dust that we could borrow or rent for a while. We run a humidifier for our instruments and will treat it with loving care. [Highland Park] [Update.unionproject] Martin Luther King Day at Union Project

FIRST FRIDAY – HIP HOP BINGO – THIS FRIDAY This Friday evening from 6-8pm come down to the Union Project to enjoy two Pittsburgh traditions, Hip Hop and Bingo. DJ Omar-Abdul will be providing old school beats and the Union Project is providing complimentary bingo cards, chips, prizes and snacks in the Atrium. Pittsburgh is the birthplace of Bingo. Hugh J. Ward first came up with the concept of bingo and began running the game at carnivals in the early 1920s, taking it nationwide in 1924. UNION STATION CAFÉ REOPENS ON THE 8TH The Union Station Café will be reopening on January 8th, with a crisp new look, a revamped menu, and a creative attitude. Check in to see the new design, a live music series and a few other surprises. MLK, Jr. EVENT – JAN 15th 6:30PM The Union Project welcomes the Pittsburgh community for an evening of motivational entertainment on January 15th at 7pm, held to honor Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his vision of connecting communities, cultures and individuals. The evening will include a community dinner beginning at 6:30pm, step performances, local gospel choirs, readings of Dr. King's selected works and a featured speaker, Rev. B. De Neice Welch. NEW CLAY CLASSES STILL OPEN Check out the website www.unioinproject.org/ceramics to see a full class listing for new and upcoming ceramics classes offered at the Union Project. Classes will be starting in January and include Open Studio, Wheel Throwing for Beginners, and Mosaic Mural Installation. All classes are 8 weeks. Call for volunteers! Looking to beef up your muscles? Ok, what about a chance to be outside in the fresh crisp air and help out a good cause? Construction Junction (CJ) needs the help of volunteers at its Christmas tree collection and recycling event on SATURDAY, JANUARY 13, 2007. As part of its mission to promote conservation through reuse, Construction Junction will be accepting Christmas trees for a $1 fee between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in the Construction Junction parking lot in the Point Breeze section of Pittsburgh. All trees will be recycled into mulch courtesy of our event sponsor, Emery Tree Service. Volunteers are needed to help unload trees from vehicles and direct traffic in the parking lot. Everyone helping out can stay warm with free cups of hot cocoa and refreshments thanks to Whole Foods Market! Additionally, volunteers will receive a free gift certificate from our neighbor, East End Food Co-op. "Think Good Food!" Please consider sharing time on January 13th to help keep unnecessary waste out of landfills. Since this list was so great with child haircut suggestions, here's another left-field question for the neighbors. I'm doing some long-range vacation planning, and am intending a European vacation in either 2007 or 2008. I'd like to find someone willing to help me brush up on my rusty high school French, so I don't feel like an idiot asking where a bathroom is in Paris. I'm looking for one-on-one instruction since my schedule probably won't permit me joining a set course schedule somewhere.
