[Highland Park] [Update.unionproject] Martin Luther King Day at Union Project
FIRST FRIDAY – HIP HOP BINGO – THIS FRIDAY This Friday evening from 6-8pm come down to the Union Project to enjoy two Pittsburgh traditions, Hip Hop and Bingo. DJ Omar-Abdul will be providing old school beats and the Union Project is providing complimentary bingo cards, chips, prizes and snacks in the Atrium. Pittsburgh is the birthplace of Bingo. Hugh J. Ward first came up with the concept of bingo and began running the game at carnivals in the early 1920s, taking it nationwide in 1924. UNION STATION CAFÉ REOPENS ON THE 8TH The Union Station Café will be reopening on January 8th, with a crisp new look, a revamped menu, and a creative attitude. Check in to see the new design, a live music series and a few other surprises. MLK, Jr. EVENT – JAN 15th 6:30PM The Union Project welcomes the Pittsburgh community for an evening of motivational entertainment on January 15th at 7pm, held to honor Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his vision of connecting communities, cultures and individuals. The evening will include a community dinner beginning at 6:30pm, step performances, local gospel choirs, readings of Dr. King's selected works and a featured speaker, Rev. B. De Neice Welch. NEW CLAY CLASSES STILL OPEN Check out the website www.unioinproject.org/ceramics to see a full class listing for new and upcoming ceramics classes offered at the Union Project. Classes will be starting in January and include Open Studio, Wheel Throwing for Beginners, and Mosaic Mural Installation. All classes are 8 weeks. BOOK DONATIONS – CAFÉ The Café is seeking book donations for the take one/leave one community reading shelf. Any quality books for Fiction, Non-Fiction, Sci-Fi, Social Commentary - you name it.
