"IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD" BE PART OF A FILM SHOOT SATURDAY JULY 1, 2006 5:00 PM AT THE POINT On Saturday July 1st at 5 p.m., Pittsburghers, past and present, near and far, are invited to join Mr. McFeely (David Newell) to sing "It's A Beautiful Day In the Neighborhood" at The Point. This once-in-a-lifetime event is part of the grand finale of "A TALE OF TWO CITIES", a movie we are making about Pittsburgh-- the city which built America with its steel, cured polio and invented everything from aluminum to the Big Mac which now is being challenged to reinvent itself. For the film, we have tossed a football with Franco Harris and his son Dok on the North Side, shopped in the Strip with Teresa Heinz Kerry, and toured the new Alcoa building with Paul O' Neill, asking them and many other Pittsburghers how they see the city's future. We could use your help in getting all of Pittsburgh to come out and sing (like the city of Chicago did for "Ferris Bueller's Day Off.") This is being done as part of the Three Rivers Regatta(http://www.pghregatta.com/entertainment.asp) which has a one dollar admission so come and make an afternoon or evening of it. It is appropriate that its ending is taking place where the rivers meet as they have played a starring role in the film. We actually caught and ate a fish from Allegheny during ESPN's Bassmaster Classic to show how Pittsburgh has changed, but not even a Hollywood screenwriter could script a third act like the Steelers winning the Super Bowl as a metaphor for city's comeback. A position is available at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 5801 Hampton St., Highland Park. The position is for a Nursery Attendant, and ould commence in September. Hours Sunday mornings 8:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m (July and August 8:15-11:15). The Nursery Attendant supervises the Nursery with care for a small number of infants and toddlers during the Sunday morning worship and education hours. Previous childcare experience and references are required. The position require a minimum age of 18. Background check and a (paid) child abuse recognition/prevention training session are required by the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh and our insurance company. [Highland Park] House Tour - Postponed

The majority of homeowners who were contacted this year were not interested in showing their homes until 2007, so we have decided that it is better to postpone the tour than scramble this year to put together a small one. We have moved the date up one year, to Saturday, September 29, 2007 We will keep the names of those who have already volunteered, and contact you next summer to see if you are still available to help. Back in 2004 the Highland Park Community Planning process produced a planning document which was available the "Highland Park Community" web site which has since gone off-line. The planning documents are now available on the Highland Park web site so they can be used to inform current and future projects in the neighborhood: <http://www.highlandparkpa.com/plan> If you are new to Highland Park or never read the Community Plan final report, be sure to check it out. I think there should be some background on the planning process beyond the plan and the contacts list--anyone who was involved in the process should feel free to submit additional information for use on the web site.
