- www.unionproject.org - Attention East End Community Leaders Union Project would like to invite you to a community discussion. Through personal connections and news reports, we are increasingly aware of issues around violence and public safety in the East End. Violence perpetrated by youth is one of the main concerns. We are also increasingly aware of many proactive solution-oriented efforts among grassroots community groups, the new Mayor, Pittsburgh Public Schools Superintendent and local Police. Our hope is that you will come with ideas, suggestions and guidance for the Union Project, our elected officials and each other about what new efforts can be made to help avert future muggings, robberies, assaults, etc. Most importantly – come to the discussion to help think about how we can collectively cultivate hope, opportunity and investment among neighborhood youth! The first is the free summer lunch program sponsored by Citi Parks. We are delighted to have this opportunity to serve the children in our neighborhood by providing a free lunch Monday through Friday. Also, every Saturday is Homegrown Saturday, an art and farmer’s market. The market consists of an organic farm stand from Mildreds’ Daughter (run by their Peabody High School interns), backyard growers selling their vegetables and flowers, artists vendor tables, Union Station Café and a free arts related activity for children. We need your help to make these programs successful! “Summer Sponsors” is a volunteer program that asks your organization to provide volunteer assistance in staffing these summer programs. “Summer Sponsors” is designed for you to engage a diverse group of your constituency. The summer lunch program is an ideal opportunity for senior citizens, small groups, high school students and stay at home parents and the market is perfect for those who work during the week. We experienced a similar thing several years ago at night, although only one guy came up on the porch and two others were down on the sidewalk. REPORT IT!!
